3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Another brewed just for these guys. I sit at night on Gentís lit canal. Smells sweet. Brown sugar and molasses. A thick sugar, plums, raisins, slight alcoholic smell, huge head in beginning disappears but a small head still remains some 20 mins later. Appearance is nice dark medium amber brown color. Clear and the color of cherry wood. Flavor is slightly booze at the back of the throat. Raisin taste. quite dry with molasses taste and some citrus notes left on back at the end. As it warms biscuit comes out in aroma and flavor.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted alongside the other housebeers at Waterhuis in Ghent. This one fell short for me. Pours murky Amber with a cream head. Quite a lot of sweetness and booze. Didnít work for me. Usually I like my Belgian beers to pack a punch but this didnít really come together. IT did have some fairly dramatic competition though.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Lovely strong ale! Very sweet, almost honey, amber color, light aroma and a pleasant warmth in the finish. 1 of the best in style!

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
My favorite beer, tried it bottled and on draft at Waterhuis an der beer kant. I prefer it on draft, easy to drink, a bit like a cocktail or a good rhum, even goes well with cigars, a bit upsetting to some because it does not follow regular paterns, it to ligth colored compared to most "real belgium beer" with an high ABV, its to dark to be just another "high alcohol beer". The taste does not stay very long but that just makes you want to have more.....

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft at Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Pours pinkish amber brown with an off white head. Aroma of malt, dough, caramel, toffee and some overripe dark fruit. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Too strong and too sweet.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured a medium reddish brown with a dense tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, roast malt. Heavy body, heading towards a Barley Wine. Flavour is heavily sweet, lots of dark fruit in the mix. Not bad, but a bit heavy going really.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Clear amber-brown pour with white head. Aroma is really malty, flour-ish, raisins, doughy, caramel. Taste is sweet, doughy, malty, boozy, a bit messy. Palate is full, rich and sweet. Not bad, but I donít have the patience for these booze bombs.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap @Waterhuis a/d Bierkant, 08/2014. Luminous dark amber pour with stable clearing station foam. Inexpressive aromas of sugary honey and rich malts, no fumes whatsoever. Taste is made up of variations of regular supermarket and liquid, pancake honey variations with shy fruit syrup notes. Still no trace of alcohol, easy insidious sipping, another Van Steenberge old school Flemish masterpiece in masking 10+ alcohol, with little surplus payoff in taste or complexity.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Belgian-style barley wine made for the Waterhuis aan de Bierkant in Ghent and named after a locally well-known folk song. Off-white, creamy and surprisingly stable head (in relation to its strength); deep copper colour, warm and clear. Sweet caramel malts, nicely adorned with accents of pear brandy, whisky, chocolate, flowers, bread, honey and candi sugar. Sweet honeyish and caramelly malts, vivid fruitiness, smooth, mild floral hoppiness in the finish with warming alcohol without turning astringent. A lot better than what Iím used to from Van Steenberge - but then, barley wines are my weak spot anyway.
