3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The last of my reviews on out of date beers from this brewery. All 3 of their beers (including this one) are 5.2%.
Brown flip-top half litre bottle should have been drank before 20th Aug 2007, it was drunk today, 12th Sept 2007.
Poured into my old half litre Schultheiss glass from Berlin.
Great ruby red colour, the huge head of biege bubbles was so large I couldn’t get all the beer into my glass. The beer was not cloudy by any means but it wasn’t crystal clear either.
The aroma was of half burnt chocolate malts and yeast.
It tastes like an Dusseldorfer Alt more than a lager to me, the label gives no hint. I like it, whatever the true style is. The burntness in the aroma isn’t in the taste, dry caramel without the sweetness is what I pick up.
The mouthfeel is good, the beer and mouth goes dry, then more dry as you make your body wait for the next mouthful.
A very nice beer, this little brewery will be getting another visit from me.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at the abbey. Poured nicely but seemed a thin mouthfeel for a dunkel. Hints of chocolate and malt were nice.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark malty aroma; some tootsie roll like chewy chocolate. Deep brown color with soft off-white head. Overall light flavor with a touch of roastiness from the dark malt, very clean almost steril (thanks again reinheitsgebot).
Notes: Bottle found at one of the local schnapps stores in Berkastel-Kues

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours clear amber with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel with some sparse hoppy notes. Bitter, hoppy flavour with roasty and sweetish touches of caramel malt and a hint of fruit. Mildly bitter finish. Decent.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Toffee color. Big tan/khaki head with a bit of lacing as it slowly dies down. Huge acetic, sour aroma. And nail polish and malt. That sourness comes through slightly in the mouth as well. So much so that it overpowers the hint of malt that is in there. Not good. Can’t finish this one unfortunately.

Bottle. Heavy malty smell, dark chocolate. Very large rocky light brown foamy head, normal long lasting; dark red body. Moderate bitter start, light bitter and sweet finish. The duration is medium. Medium body, dry and creamy texture with a soft carbonation. A very nice Dunkles.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark brown that you can see a bit through with a lacy thin off-white lasting thin head. Smells of malt, caramel and a light vegetable. A slight musky. Medium tart frothy body with a bit too much carbonation. Light smoked and roast with lots of malt and a sour dry aftertaste.

Smal light brown head. Perfect red-amber color. Very good maltarom. No sweetness and big drinkabillity.
