very dark colour with medium, brownish head which is solid. bitter and roasted smell. thin but fine start with roasted malts and some hops. mid gets sweeter, aromes of caramel. end gets more intensive, sweet, roasted. unnormal but interesting development. nice.

Aug 9, 2008 (6/31/08) Draught at the brewpub in Bamberg. Very dark brown to black color with a beige head. Aroma is quite roasty with some ice-coffee, caramel and some butterscotch. Roasty sweet flavor with some coffee with milk. Medium-bodied.

Jul 12, 2008 On tap at The Klosterbrau Brewpub, Bamberg. Black brown with tan head. Quite tarry on the nose, the body is fairly sweet and fruity with notes of plum and prunes. There is a slight sourness in the background but nothing too extreme. It’s ok.

Very dark cloudy brown with a thin off white head. Grainy aroma, slightly sour with some spice and toffee. Lemony sourness in the flavour, tangy malt. Ok but not amazing.

May 9, 2008 From tap sitting in front of Klosterbräu. Dark brown with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt with hints of coffee. The flavour has a rather good body, but not nearly as much as many others (Vielanker Schwartz for one). It has notes of caramel, roasted coffee and not nearly as much coffee as the aroma suggested. It develops dry towards the slightly bitter finish.
