3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at The Klosterbrau Brewpub, Bamberg. Black brown with tan head. Quite tarry on the nose, the body is fairly sweet and fruity with notes of plum and prunes. There is a slight sourness in the background but nothing too extreme. It’s ok.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A Mes rate: Gravity serving at Zeitgeist.
Very dark cloudy brown with a thin off white head. Grainy aroma, slightly sour with some spice and toffee. Lemony sourness in the flavour, tangy malt. Ok but not amazing.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From tap sitting in front of Klosterbräu. Dark brown with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt with hints of coffee. The flavour has a rather good body, but not nearly as much as many others (Vielanker Schwartz for one). It has notes of caramel, roasted coffee and not nearly as much coffee as the aroma suggested. It develops dry towards the slightly bitter finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled (5,2% ABV). A black beer with a very big and persistent light brown head. Malty nose with a roasty touch. The flavour is malty, roasty with some coffee notes and light hoppy notes. Quite rich. Medium body, average carbonation, moderately bitter aftertaste. Near stouty. Nice stuff and another good Bamberger beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark ruby color, big cloudy off-white head. First there is mould and wood in the aroma, when beer warms up - tar and smoke. Woody, barrel-like mouldy flavors, toasted malts, tar, smoke, light milk chocolate. Hops rise in the aftertaste. Personal and excellent smokey Schwarzbier and currently clearly underrated in RB (with score 3.36).

Clear dark brown color, medium off-white head. Aroma of some coffee, licorice, roasted malt, hint of smoke. Taste is a bit weaker, roasted malt, bit sweet. Very promising aroma, but taste doesn’t match with the expectations.
