Draught. Almost totally black colour. Big, stable light brown head. Malty aroma with a hint of sweet liquorice. Very roasted flavour with a little malt bitterness making it almost Irish stoutish. Hint of smoke. The mouthfeel is not as thin as most Schwarzbiers. Mild, but prickly carbonation. Not a typical Schwarzbier, but better.

Bottled. A black coloured beer with a decent but short-lived off white head. The aroma has some sour milk, a little coffee and a touch of cocoa powder. The taste is tainted by sour milk also. A lightly roasted malt background saves it from being nasty, together with some dusty chocolate. Maybe a little infected?

Draught at the brewey tap Frothy, very lightly brown head which disappears fastly. Fair lace. Clear, black body. Aroma of mild cofee, roasted malts, spices, ... Not a very intense flavour, but it has a very subtle spiciness in it’s roasted malts, which gives this beer a very pleasant and complex flavour. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter in the beginning, lightly bitter in the end. Lightly bodied. Lively carbonation.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2011 Impressions from the Gaststätte:
-Plenty of foam tops the blackness and its brown and amber highlights.
-Roasted maltiness and raisins tingle in the nose.
-Roastiness mingles with the caramel sweetness, as figs and raisins communicate healthily.
-Carbonation isn’t overdone, letting the malts express themselves.
-Herbal, spicy hops join in, creating complexity.
-Aftertaste is quietly roasty, and dark chocolate expresses humble origins.
-This is a well-built schwarzbier, simple and straight to the point.

On tap at the brewery.
