On draught at the pub in Bamber. Has some good warm milk choc flavour and some bitterness on finish. Fine. Better than decent and I was quite drunk by this time.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear, deeper brown colored body with a slight mahogany hue. Inch thick, dense and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is medium sweet malts with a touch of molasses, a light roast note, some raisin bread, and a light noble hopping. Flavor is similar. A light roast throughout with a bit of an noble hop note, some lightly sweetened malts with molasses hints, roast, bread, and a touch of spice. Finishes clean and dry with a light roasty bitterness and a bit of a sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a light body and an active carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid schwarzbier. Clean, easy drinking, and flavorful. A touch sweet at times, but nicely balanced by the roasts and light hopping. Good one.

500 ml flip-top bottle from Wasana’s in Germany. Pours a very dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is a nice roasty malt and dark fruit, with some coco, smoke and nuts going on. Taste is more nutty but much of the same as the aroma. Palate is mellow and smooth. A really good Schwazbier!

Bottle. Dark brown, small to average and fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel, light roasted malt with faint licorice. Medium, malty and sweetish flavor, light caramel and light roasted malt with light bread. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, light roasted malt and light bread. Lightly roasted schwarz - OK but nothing special.

Bottle. Brown, clear. Dark bready malts, lager notes. Some light metallic, roasted malts, woody notes and tar-y things. A dark lager pretty much, with some tarry jerky. Body is good medium light. Smooth. Tasty for a dark lager, with the slight tar, oaky, notes. A bit light, but ok.

RexTalionis (2356) - FINLAND - JAN 18, 2013
Flip-top bottle. Pours dark brown in color with small beige head. Sweet maltyness along with roasted malts and hints of chocolate in aroma. Reminds a bit of some sweet rye bread actually. Roasted malty mostly and hints of coffee in flavor but sadly there it ends. A bit dry in taste and feels a bit monotonous compared to the fact that the aroma promised a bit more. The malty sweetness and ’juiciness’ was not just there in the end.

inbirraveritas (1216) - Budapest, HUNGARY - DEC 2, 2012
Bottled. Nearly non-transparent black/ruby body, beige head. Smell of molasses and black bread. Heavy malty aroma ruled by molasses, black bread and dough underpainted by mild roasted malt and grassy hops. Usually Schwarzbier charactered, somewhat thin mouthfeel. Mild roasty, sweetbitter finish. Tasty, easy drinkable brew .

5.2%ABV Flip-top, half-litre bottleBBD 19 Jan 2013: poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard @ home on 21 Nov 2012. Large pop as I opened the bottle, the beer wanted to get out: the glass filled with tanned foam and only half the actual beer left the bottle before my glass almost overflowed with the huge head I’d produced. Once everything had calmed down a bit I poured the remaining beer into my glass and had a good sniff: toasted/roasted bread/biscuity malt esters in the smell. The taste was also mostly of malts, I found some toffee flavours before stronger dark chocolate and mildly hoppy finish rounded off each sip. This is one of the better brews I’ve had in this style: more depth of flavour and body strength from start to finish.
