Knee Deep’s Batch 138 India Pale Ale is brewed with three types of C hops and Simcoe, which gives this West Coast IPA an aroma that resembles a cat that has peed in a pine tree. Batch 138 finishes dry and crisp and is sure to leave you in hop euphoria.

22 oz. bottle picked up locally (we seem to get these in pretty good shape). Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have dank, catty, resiny and citrus hops, lightly toasted malt, caramel, some earthy notes to the finish, pretty decent IPA even shipped across the country.

A musty hop with a touch of simcoe aroma comes from this hazy yellow brew with tiny white bubbles forming around the edges of the glass. A citrusy hop flavor collides with the sweet maltieness and bitter of this medium bodied crisp ale. The trio of flavors meld well making this ipa very well rounded. In the aftertaste the sweetness fades and a slight grain flavor comes out as the bitterness stays throughout. I get a grapefruit citrusy aftertaste that lingers for awhile.

Not very hoppy smell with hint of sweetness. Looks pretty clean. Less hop flavor than most IPAs. Pretty easy to drink not thick flavored. Overall crisp IPA but not too strong.

Shared with Strykzone on facebook chat. Pours a clear copper with a creamy off-white head. Good lacing. Nose of pine and citrus. Floral too. Full in body. Smooth in the mouth . Favor is a hop bomb with cirrus, pine, fruit. Bitter pine finish. Darn good.

Bomber from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. This is hazy and dingy golden and it has a cool looking egg shell foam. Sticky lacing. From a distance I smelled some kind of spice but up close it is a hop fruit bomb. It doesn’t taste quite like it smells. I taste more Simcoe and while I do taste some spice it is not what I smelled. Bitterness is big. Unfortunately I have a hard time smelling or tasting pine. That ability might come in handy here. Malts are pale and kind of papery and feel a little powdery. A malty finish but still plenty of the fruit remained. I like this one.

Growler from Albertsons. Classic IPA, hoppy but allowing the malts to come through. Pours out a deep, clear golden with frothy head. Hoppy, citrus aroma. Taste is hops first, coming on quite strongly, with a nice malt backbone. The hops linger in the aftertaste for a while.

The City Beer Hall, Albany, NY, draft. The taste is...odd. Off putting at first, I think it could grow on me. What is it? Grass? Burnt grass? Not malt, is it? Strong, whatever it is. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, pours Clearish golden color with medium to large off white head, lasting. Aroma of tangerine, pineapple and grapefruit. Flavor has sweet orange sugar, grapefruit, cotton candy and bitter pine. Too sweet and agressive in flavor but still not bad overall. Medium bodied.

Bottle: Slight haze, straw colored, light head and poor lace. Mix of hops and malt. Very light malt but a hint of victory malt or something like that. Hops are very fresh. Lantana. Very dry, not sour & moderate bitterness. palate is fresh & light. Clean and bright with high CO2. Bitterness is slightly dominant for weight of the beer. A good IPA.
