Big bottle (sadly) split with Matt and Octo@ Sandy Lane, CA, 28/08/12. Dusted orange gold slicked with white. Perfumed, pissy, stewed tea and tropical fruit aroma; sweat, liquorice, ganja and lady’s..wrist. Pretty beautiful and deeply TPA/Oakham. Balanced, soapy, clean-cut hoppy flavour with breakfast juice, Darjeeling and marmalade on toast, dunked malted milk. Finishes green and stewed cuppa-like. Pushed all my buttons and those of my fellow tasters.

A - Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is full of citrus and tropical hops with just a bit of pine hop and some sweet caramel and biscuit malts. T - Starts off with a mix of grapefruit, tropical, and citrus hops with some bitterness and sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some pine and floral hops come through with some more bitterness and some biscuit malt. The finish is a mix of sweet bready malts with grapefruit, pine, and floral hops and bitterness. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice hoppy pale ale with some good hop flavor from the Citra and a good hop and malt balance.

Clearish-copper with sudsy white head. Moderately earthy hop character, rather dry with a lingering hop finish. A bit of earthy-hop aroma. Light palate, but flavorful.

A vigorous pour into my Bruery tulip produces a fat-two-finger thick, light tan tinged head. The beer is an amber hue that shows a brilliantly clear, copper hue. As I pour this beer a note similar to oxidized malt seems to noticeable. A focused look at the nose reveals lots of lychee, ripe tangelo zest, some peppery pine notes, and a backing maltiness of caramelized whole grain crackers, with a touch of caramelized brown bread crumb.

Somewhat dry tasting, with lots of hop fruit character that leans towards lychee, kumquat zest, and floral peach up front, but the finish is dry, bitter, herbal & woody. The herbal side of the hops linger on the tongue with an almost tongue numbing character. The beer has a bit of fizziness to it, I wouldn’t say it is quite excessive, as it isn’t overly gassy, but it is a touch too much for this particular beer. This beer is clearly about the hops, there is a touch of supporting malt character that provides hints of crackers, and a touch of crystal malt notes in the finish. The beer is quite light bodied, it would be downright quaffable for all if it wasn’t so hop dominated by all, as it is if you are a hop head then this will be right up your alley. The finish definitely has a menthol and pine like hoppiness to it as the beer warms up; this contributes a fair amount of sharp, piquant hop character.

This is a nice, Pale Ale, I really like how expressively hoppy it is, yet still retains an eminent quaffability. I am not sure what that initial oxidized malt sort of note was, but at least it is not noticeable after that first whiff.

22oz bottle. Clear amber with a big rocky head. Aroma is dominated by grapefruit peel with some floral and caramel notes. Flavor is bitter hops from start to finish with just a bit of mellow malt for balance, alcohol completely hidden. Medium body with lively carbonation. Great beer to showcase the Citra hop, tons of hop character and well balanced.

Bomber purchased at Barons Market’s Rancho Bernardo location ($6.99). Pours a dark amber-red hue with two fingers of eggshell-colored head. Aroma of bright citrus, honeysuckle, and caramel. Flavor of citrus (tangerine and lemon peel), honey, caramel, and some grainy bread. Somewhat light-bodied, but finishes rather bitter for an APA. (70, 725)

Light golden pour with lots of head. Great hoppy aroma. Flavor is dry, fairly typical. Nice thanks to the aroma.
