4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pour clear dark gold with large white head. Nose huge tropical fruit, citrus, and resin. Taste grapefruit bite up front, then resin. Some citrus, then comes dank and bitter. Late palate heat from alcohol. As it warms, more mango and sweet malt appear, balancing the alcohol. Long bitter finish. Thick mouth feel.

Bomber to tulip. Pours a deep orange color with a small white head. Awesome grapefruit and pine aroma. Flavor is primarily malty with citrus and resin and a mildly bitter finish. Medium carbonation. Reminds me of Alpine Expo.

"Simtra may have some conpetition as KDís best beer, and that is saying something. Big. pungent aroma of hop oils...citrus and tropical fruit and a whole lot of cat peed on my christmas tree. not quite the enamel eater in the mouth as the nose would have you believe, but almost. fantastic hop headís delight."

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bomber pours with a crystal clear deep gold body that has copper hues and supports a weak light tan head. The aroma offers up big resiny sticky smelling notes filled in by plenty of hop sweet citrusy and pine aromas and booze. The hops are largely pine like and bitter citrus trudging along in a pond of thick sticky maltiness. The taste is smooth and slick and sweet and resiny and syrupy sticky resiny hoppy stickiness, wow! Thereís big bold pine and tangelo and pineapple and alcohol. Goodness. This is a sipper. It starts with modest citrus hop flavor and thick malts and then runs directly into booze, citrus hop and pine hop resiny bitterness and then sticky sweet malts. Git all messed up drinkiní a 22 of this.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle dated 07/16/14. Time to give Knee Deep another shot.
Aroma is definitely dominated by hops with a touch of cracker malt and faint caramel in the background. Lots of citrus and stone fruit with some really nice tropical fruit notes. Grapefruit, orange, mango, peach, pineapple and melon are all present. Some light pine resin notes to balance all the fruit.
Pours a slightly hazy, golden orange with a small, fairly thick, slightly off white head that shows decent retention as it recedes to the edges. Low lacing and medium low legs.
Flavor has a light sweetness with a moderate cracker and biscuit note and faint caramel. Finish has some alcohol spice and is rather noticeable on such a dry, hoppy beer but thatís to be expected in a triple IPA. High, fairly clean bitterness. Hop flavors are not as fruity as in the aroma with more pine and hop resin. Yeast profile seems fairly clean. Still lots of citrus and stone fruit notes from the hops but the tropical fruit and melon is a bit less noticeable. Lingering alcohol, cracker, pine resin and citrus.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a rather dry finish and moderate carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth.
Overall, a pretty nice triple IPA from Knee Deep and my favorite beer from them so far. The malt character is much more subdued with only a light stickiness. Lots of hop character and the alcohol seems fairly clean, though there is possibly a touch of fusel. I do t usually crave a triple IPA, but if I were, this would be one of the first ones I reached for.

On draft. Clear golden orange pour, with a white head. Lots of fresh juicy hops, grapefruit, pineapple, some mango, pine resin, sweet, notes of caramel, and a bit boozy. A little too sweet, not really bitter (a good thing), and nice hoppiness.

Picked this up at Brewers Haven Boise a week or so ago, but now most of the Geek places have it on ... cool.
22 for about $8 ... poured tonight into my CC Teku... short lived white head and only decent lacing... nice clear orange brew.
Nose is sweet and bitter.. pithy citrus and a bunch of pale maltiness... fruity hop bowl is reminiscent of papaya, guava and perhaps strawberry.
Bitter up front but a pretty heavy residual maltiness moves in quickly.. tropical fruity hops and some floral hops magically grow wings and move the ABV into the more drinkable realm.. mango and lesser melon, I am impressed.. Bigger ABV and should be enjoyed cool and allowed to warm up... The hops really morph as the temperature changes.. Very well done DIPA.
