3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
640mL bottle from Warners at the Bay
Deep golden body, firm white head lingers atop.
Pungent nose - freshly cut pine, leafy dried herbs, dank, citrus leaf, touch of tropical fruits and biscuity malt.
Big body, chewy, resiny, drying, astringent.
Brutal palate - stacks of dank resiny leafy pine citrus hops, malt doesn’t get much of a look in, hugely bitter, lingers for an eternity, the abv doesn’t register amongst the maelstrom of hops.
Crazy liquid aggression. Enjoyable, but not for mere mortals.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
From bottle in IPA glass. Pours clear amber with a beautiful two-finger head with some stamina. Piney citrus aroma with a hint of peach. The tri-continent malt base is a nice canvas under a very smooth but solid bitter finish. An excellent DIPA.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, apricot, resin), with notes of plastic, vegetables, bile. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, unclean/plastic. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
I’d tried Breaking Bud here in Maui last month, and could swear I actually rated it, but perhaps it was so awful I just dumped it without going through the pain of reviewing it formally. Well, this one is just is bad, and for similar reasons...lots of plastic and rotting fruit/vegetable odor in the nose, and that nastiness comes back big time in the finish as well. A terrible beer, and after two samples, looking like it could be a trend with this brewery.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Fruity and buttery aromas to start, bitter grassy flavour takes over quickly for a long finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is softly floral with some lime, citrus and bready malt. Taste is bitter grapefruit, some orange peels, resin and a long heavy and mid-dry finish. Superbly delicious of course.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Un cervezón difícil de olvidar por su aroma intenso a lúpulo, su cuerpo denso y maltoso y su color ámbar. Cada trago es impresionante y la botella se hace corta.

Ticking because why not? Grocery shopping turns to spontaneous stop at Chuck’s. Clear burnt copper, small frothy white head. Pine; citrus; lean; alcohol apparent; fresh and hop-driven. Dry, assertive lasting bitterness. Medium body. Overall: good IIPA.
