Poured from bottle it has a golden amber color with a medium head. Aroma of pine and grass with some grapefruit. Taste has bitterness up front with lots of hops. Some citrus kicks in along with some grass. Good finish.

Frothy white foam covers the surface of this brassy, amber brew, but stops none of the amazing aroma drifting upwards from the liquid. The Citra is prominent here and you all know how much I love my Citra! The heavy pine and grassy citrus is laden with sweet malt, the medium body coating my tongue with sticky, resin tastiness. The experience is a little on the boozy side, but sometimes, that’s exactly what you want!
Once again I am enamored with a Knee Deep presentation and am one step closer to being completely in love with this brewery. The finish is long, dry and fits snugly under the back of my tongue, coaxing the flavors forward and luring me back to the glass over and over again.

"another winning hoppy brew from the boys at Knee Deep. While playing with Hopstar pre-production, there were versions approaching this. chewy, sticky hops, sweet malt, with a really cool buttery flavor and aroma in addition to intense citrus and pine. very nice IIPA while watching the G-men dismantle the Falcons :) 2/17-wow, REALLY short shelf life. that sucks..."

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Very impressive double IPA, right up there with the best of em. Smells like grapefruit, citrus flavor follows with a little pine. Very dank hop flavor.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2014 22 oz. bottled about 6 weeks ago. Pour has a deep golden color and a thin covering of white head that fell right back to a ring on the glass. Aroma has earthy hops, perfume, hefty resins, citrus, and a big malted core. Mouth feel is medium with good coating and carbonation a touch low. I had expected this to be more of a pallet bruiser from the assault of hops in the nose and that is very welcome. Flavor has resins, citrus, lighter bitterness, hefty malts, and a touch of sweet pink grapefruit. This drinks very smooth and shows little alcohol. I guess that the fact knee deep goes to the triple level with these beers that this falls into the strong side ipa category for me and as a result it is much more drinkable than most iipa’s.

Bottle picked up at Brewer’s Haven on Vista for a pretty pricey $8.50ish... Poured into my standard goblet.. clear dark golden with a nice white head... good lacing and retention.
Nose is about what I expect from Knee Deep... Pretty spot-on big boned hoppiness with plenty of pithy grapefruit and aromatic tropical fruits and melon.
Flavor shows big pithy bitterness up front.. fruity hops from that point forward..
Light/medium body with a nice bubble accentuates the drinkability and moves this one forward..
Hoptologist seems very similar to most Knee Deep beers I have had recently... Not really a knock, but I guess maybe I would hope for bigger differences between their different big hoppy bottles.
