COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Attention citizens of America! The reds are among us! An Imperial Red was spotted in the vicinity of Knee Deep Brewing Co. It has disguised itself with a heavy dose of hops in the kettle and even more in the fermenter. To further allude detection, it has added a slight spice from rye. Do NOT be fooled. This is not a west coast style IPA. This a delicious and extremely dangerous Imperial Red. Do not try to approach it by yourself. McCarthy’s Bane is here and very real. If you share this beer with your comrades, be prepared to find your name on a list in McCarthy’s briefcase. It may be on draft in select quality beer establishments around you. Be advised! McCarthy’s Bane is a malty, somewhat spicy, yet very hoppy brew that is dry hopped and brewed with huge amounts of Pacific Northwest hops. Yes, we use rye in this amazing brew.

Pours a deep, transparent copper with a thin, tan head that quickly fades. Minimal lacing. Aroma is deeply bitter with an absence of floral notes. Lightly effervescent mouthfeel. Heavily bitter taste, as promised by the style and claims for this brew, but with complex undertones. Good beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for the Daystrom M-5

This beer pours a clear reddish-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and hops. Medium body with flavors of piney hops, roasted malt and caramel. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Bottle. An amber color with a foamy off-white head. A malty and rye aroma with a fair hop profile. Smooth with a nice finish of chocolate and light pine.

22 ounce bottle from Total Wine; dark reddish color, thin head, sweet aroma, bitter front with caramel finish. One of the better rye offerings.

Not to many Imperial Red Ales out there these days and this one is on top. Great aroma, perfect balance between the hops and slight malts sweetness. I will be buying more.

Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, orange zest, earthiness, pine and grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness, grapefruit, pine and light orange zest with a smooth dry bitter lingering grapefruit finish.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Bel-Air in Woodland, CA. The aroma on this is initially hoppy with mostly pine and herbal hops. Some caramel and toffee malt aromas back this up, as well as a little candi sugar. Light roasted coffee barely comes through, too. Transparent garnet-amber body with a medium to large, frothy, strong cream-colored head present. Attractive beer. Starts with a good deal of lightly sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors. Becomes more roasted in the middle with a little burnt malty char. Finishes sharply bitter with a good deal of herbal and more pine hops? Perhaps some Chinook. A big, brash beer, but it seems to work pretty well. Kind of like Arrogant Bastard on steroids. My complaint is that the body seems a little thin on this beer.

A - Pours a dark red-brown with a finger of frothy tannish head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts with some grapefruit, pine, and grassy hops and some caramelized sugars and dark caramel malts. T - Starts off with a mix of sweet caramel malts with some grapefruit and citrus hops, some bitterness, and some dark caramel malts. Through the middle, some caramelized sugars come through with some pine hops and some more bitterness. The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts and caramelized sugars, grapefruit and pine hops, some bitterness, and some light smokey flavor. M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet, bitter, and lightly warming finish. D - Very drinkable. Good complex red ale. Nice overall balance.
