Poured from the bottle. Pours cloudy with sediment. Nice creamy head, no lacing. Aroma is of rye malt. Flavor is similar but not as smooth as other ryes. Palate is full bodied with a oily thick finish. Overall pretty decent rye.

Bottle at Minneapolis Beer Fest. There’s a little rye in here, a little spice, and a little of the barnyard funk you’d expect from a saison. Not enough of the spicy, fruity esters to make this interesting, though.

Bomber from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Bottle says 8%. Pours translucent orange amber with a creamy off-white or beige head. Smells of citrus and a little barnyard. The body is sort of medium creamy. The flavor has rye, some Belgian spice, and some light barnyard accompaniment. Citrus is very light. It gets more saison like with time. Seems like it is a bit confused. Drinks well.

This is the new version of the Ryedentity Crisis. The brewer told me they decided to not make it black anymore. Amazing Rye Saison. Unfiltered, farmhouse aroma and paired very well with my food.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a cream colored head. malt and earth aroma with pine and light cocoa. Grapefruit and pine flavor with earth and malt. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and pine linger with earth, malt, and light caramel.

This smells horrible; like soured milk. Looks nice though. The flavor is interestingly bad. Not real heavy, a bit sweet, but it just can’t quite overcome the outstandingly bad aroma.

On tap at Monks Kettle. Pours black with a rich tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a molasses and anise flavor with a rye bread finish.

10 ounce sample on tap at Dad’s Kitchen in Sacramento, CA during Sacramento Beer Week. The aroma is a bit sweet and sugary. There are a fair amount of dusty horseblanket yeast esters present. This also has a bit of an awkward minty and chocolate aroma, too. Weird. Moderately transparent mahogany body with a very small off-white head. Starts kind of chocolatey and a bit salty. Actually, this is rather salty. A little spiced in the middle, before this becomes thick and syrupy later on. The finish is dominated by the dusty banana yeast esters. Just a little too different. Too big, and too cloying for a saison. Needs to be drier.
