COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Simtra Triple IPA delivers a punch in the face with its very danky hop aroma derived from Simcoe and Citra hops. You wanted more hops you got them.

Clear light copper coloured body with a nice, dense three centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of super pungent and resinous hops, pine, grapefruit and a bunch of sweet and alcohol notes - dominated by passionfruit and pineapple. Full-bodied; Sweet flavour at first of pineapple and resin with a lot of body and malt depth right behind with massive amounts of hops afterwards - dominated by pine and grapefruit. Aftertaste shows a ton of alcohol warmth, a lot of honey and other sweet flavours and more hops than both of those combined - literally bunches of hops in the mix, plus with the alcohol and body, this one really is extreme. Overall, a pungent and super hoppy beer, but with the name goes the flavour - triple ipa, and it lived up to the billing - tons of hops, but so much malt backbone to go with it; If you have someone to drink this this, you’ll be much better off, because one person alone with this one isn’t easy, and I can attest to that! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Texas Liqour in Carlsbad, California on 19-March-2013 for US$10.99 sampled at home in Washington on 21-April-2013.

Bottle 3 weeks old. Clear golden with a foamy white head that laces all the way. Powerful simcoe and citra aroma. Man I'm a sucker for simcoe, probably because I hate cats. Taste is powerful hop bite, lots of citrusy green hops. Resinous sticky mouthfeel with alcohol well hidden. Nice.

22oz bottle, thanks kmweaver. Crystal clear light amber body atop medium off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, dank, grapefruit/orange, some pineapple, light bubblegum. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some pineapple, orange, light alcohol, alcohol burn. Medium-full body, fairly resinous, some stickiness.

Bottle courtesy of my friend Noel. Hazy amber with a short white head. Aroma is hoppy with fruit notes, caramel and resins. Taste is hop resins, tropical fruit, caramel, sweet malt, floral notes, booze and grassy hops. Body is medium with a creamy carbonation and a slight syrupy feel. Lots of warmth as well. Ends with more caramel, sweet malt, floral hops, grass, citrus fruit and hop resins.

22oz bottle, purchased at BeerCraft. Pours a brilliantly clear, bright golden color; fine-bubbled white head with nice retention. Lots of pithy citrus here, quiet crystalline sugar and lightly warming ethanol, along with plenty of esters here: cotton candy, bubble gum, lots of fruit; seemingly fermented quite warm. Medium-full body; moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation; again, loads of warm-fermentation esters in this: bubble gum and cotton candy, lots of pithy grapefruit, firm bitterness; definitely more of a midsection than the hefty uber-IPAs I go for, but solid and tasty. Again, a whole lot o’ esters. Lasting bitterness in the finish, bubble gum and sugar.

Bottle. Really good beer but not as hoppy for a beer that claims to be 130+ IBU. Expected more but still a very good beer.

Pours medium gold and transparent. Nice white head that fades quickly. No real lacing. Nice bright nose. Dank, pine, some booze, tangerine rind, floral, malt sugar, lemons, peaches. Relatively dry for the abv, which is still fairly sweet. Something about going over 10% abv seems to make every DIPA a bit too sticky. My main complaint is that the hop bitterness is a bit bland. It’s not bad, just lacks complexity compared to some similar DIPAs. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky but, again, good for the abv. Medium to low carbonation. Lasting bitter finish. Good stuff. It could use a bit more hop complexity on the palate, but the nose works very well, and it’s quite good for the abv. I’m just not sure that I like when DIPAs go above 9% abv. Edit 1/20/13: Raised scores a bit after having had it a few more times. In particular, I’m getting a bit more hop flavor in the taste than I remember from my review bottle.

Recklessly sharp. Inundated in piney, bombastic hoppiness that sands your taste buds, this IPA plays horseshoes with your ability to judge the most fleeting of notes. Not for beginners.

Bottle @Bruce’s, thanks to the main man himself. It pours clear orange with a small white head. The nose is soft tangerine, orange, alcohol, mango, passion fruit and a touch of barnyard. The taste is bitter pine, orange, tangerine, sticky, booze, viscous, resinous and orange liqueur with a dry, rather bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and cloying mouth-feel. Brash and boozy!

Bomber poured into tulip glass. Clear, pale amber with small white head. Nose is great - citrus, pine, grass. Flavor is slightly dank, follows the nose with a bitter finish. Strong, very good.
