4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Simcoe and Citra: my two favorite hops! Pours a very hazy ruby orange color with a half finger off white head. Smells of sweet, juicy grapefruit, lots of papaya, mango, pine, fruit punch, almost like a perfume floral smell. Little bit of breadiness in the back but over taken by the hop qualities. Taste starts with the mellower fruits like papaya, mango, pineapple from the citra. Then in the middle you get a carmel flavor, as well as a biscuity note. Also some of the more astringency notes start to creep in like grapefruit and pine from the simcoe. Then the finish is more of the carmel malt, pine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, papaya, mango. Just a symphony of flavors. The finish lasts and a bitter grapefruit and lemon flavor is the last to go. Just enough malt to just cut some of the bitterness from the massive amounts of hops. Definitely do get booze on the finish as well, but that is expected at almost 12%. Gets much better as it warms and the fruity flavors of the hops definitely do come out when it does. Pretty full mouthfeel with moderate carbonation and a creamy, yet oily mouthfeel from the hops. Would love to get my hands on more of this!

amber color with clear body. very hoppy and moderate malty. itís triple ipa so the bitterness is really high, and the sweetness is well back up the bitterness.

Draught. Super hoppy beer that smacks you right in the face with hops as soon as you get it anywhere near your nose. Fairly bitter, and doesnít drink like its ABV, which I view as a plus.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Good goddamn. Coming from a state thatís known for making absurdly hoppy beers, Simtra might be the bitterest thing Iíve tasted yet. Hazy amber appearance. Itís basically all hop notes here. Dank, resinous, aggressive, piney, chewy, pungent, astringent. Thereís some glimmers of tropical sweetness but mostly itís redolent of fruit pith. Creamy feel but itís crisp and bright with intense bitterness. As IPAís go this is an extreme example. Anyone short of a hophead and/or masochist will find this to be abrasive, so a relatively small subset will like it, while some seasoned, open-minded tasters will be forced to admire - perhaps begrudgingly - how unrelentingly hop-forward this is.

On tap at Manito. Aroma is onion, grapefruit. Pours mostly clear golden with a collar of big bubbly foam. Taste is oniony, licorice, alcohol. Iím not a big fan of oniony beers, but this isnít as bad as some out there.

12 oz draft- Pours light hazy orange with a creamy blanket lace. Aroma is mango, nice and hoppy, resinous, banana and lemon. The taste is resin, lemon, medium bitterness that follows through to the end, alcohol is noticeable, wish it was dialed back a bit. Not bad.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
650mL bottle from Beer Cartel. Brewed 12/23/15
Hazy apricot-orange body, small creamy white head persists.
Intense aroma - bags of pine, orange, passionfruit, mango, sweet cracker biscuit malt & toasted bread malts; touch of boozy spice in the midst.
Immense body - creamy, thick, solid like a brick wall of texture, slick & oily, balance is great, booze lets you know but leads you astray.
One thing that must be said, despite the overt hoppiness of this beer, the malt backbone is very nice - cracker biscuits, toasty, almost coconut & vanilla like; provides a fantastic sweet backbone for stacks of bitterness from big hop flavours of pine sap, unripe mango & honeydew, grapefruit rind & passionfruit skin (?). Bitterness is big, but certainly not out of balance.
Tremendous double IPA, one of the best Iíve come across.
