3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle
I am not sure why but this release did not resonate with me at all. It was a fair deal - enough that I am willing to try more of their lineup - but not remarkable. Given the choice I would gone with a four pack of Headhunter instead. Still, maybe it was a bad bottle which means eventually I will need to revisit it.
Aroma / Appearance - The coppery transparent base bubbles and sparkles. An icy white head looks like a fresh dusting of overnight snow. Pine cones, mangoes, grapefruit, and other flavors are sharp. Even so I somehow found it hard to get excited. It wasn’t off but I can’t put my finger on the reason.
Flavor / Palate - Mangoes and pine trees warm the throat immediately. A dry bitterness is harsh on the palate. For $6.99 this is a full bodied and robust beer from a brewery that wasn’t on my radar until now. Maybe this summer when it is too hot for the stouts I’ll get some more of their releases.

emi lasting white head. Clear solid yellow color. Big and fresh citrus hop aroma. A light tart bitterness and long lasting bitterness finishing with a solid malt.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
650mL bottle from Beer Cartel. Brewed 12/23/15
Hazy apricot-orange body, small creamy white head persists.
Intense aroma - bags of pine, orange, passionfruit, mango, sweet cracker biscuit malt & toasted bread malts; touch of boozy spice in the midst.
Immense body - creamy, thick, solid like a brick wall of texture, slick & oily, balance is great, booze lets you know but leads you astray.
One thing that must be said, despite the overt hoppiness of this beer, the malt backbone is very nice - cracker biscuits, toasty, almost coconut & vanilla like; provides a fantastic sweet backbone for stacks of bitterness from big hop flavours of pine sap, unripe mango & honeydew, grapefruit rind & passionfruit skin (?). Bitterness is big, but certainly not out of balance.
Tremendous double IPA, one of the best I’ve come across.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Jeez what a superb brew - Simcoe on steroids - massive hop impact - well balanced but unobtrusive malt - alcohol invisible until it hit my speech centre but luckily I shared the bottle otherwise all motor function would have malfunctioned.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The best thing about this beer is the aroma of the hops when you first crack open the bottle. Reminds of brewing your own beer and the smells of that process!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Mill Valley Whole Foods. Pours with a light head and light copper colour. Lots of pine, lemon and tangerine. Super boozy, especially in the aftertaste, and medium sweet. 4 months old, would have liked to try one more fresh.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
very interesting aroma, some pineapple, resin, tangerine, malty presence as cracker, some green bitterness. The flavour is less sweet than the aroma. A lot of tangerine, a lot of pine nidlees, but after a dry finish there is a lot of alcohol in the aftertaste. Lovely mouthfeel, smooth beer but not so fresh as it should be. Tropical notes in return, this isn’t so fresh but neither so old, five months old, is too much for an ipa, for sure, but maybe even fresh the alcool is too present.
