Bottle50cl. Clear deep amberbrown, large foamy tan head, good retention and lacing; strong roasted malts aroma, caramel, brown sugar, bread, nut and cocoa notes; taste is light heavy sweet and slightly bitter, malty, toffee, dark bread; medium body, oily texture, smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation, aftertaste sweetbitter, leafy hops, bit earthy; very nice Dunkel.

Draft at the brewery in Regensburg. Clear cola with a fine tan head. Chocolate, dust, toasted grain maltiness with touches of marzipan and black cherry. Medium bodied, sweet, low bitterness, low acid, clean, creamy, fluffy and soft, highly toasted bread crust, subtle chocolate, light touch of toosite roll chew chocolate character. Very similar malt character to the dunkler bock, but more subtle and restrained.

Keg at GBBF as ’Kneitinger Export Dunkel’. Very dark plum colour, red hue, small off-white head. Aroma is molasses, salt lick, treacle. Body is light, tingly carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is light toffee, soft bitterness. OK.

Keg at GBBF 2015. It pours clear deep brown with a decent beige head. The nose is sweet, toasty, brown bread, fruit cake, dried fruit and light spice. The taste is smooth, bitter - sweet, earthy roast, fruit cake, peppery spice, charred stuff, brown bread with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Simple, easy - going funnel.

Bottled. Thanks heavy! Poured a dark bronze body with a small off white head. Sweet aloma, chocolate and malt, dry, lovely. Light, nice dry chocolate taste, a bit on the lighter side, dry finish, almost no aftertaste. Vaguely creamy, vaguely herbal, vaguely soapy, vaguely bitter. Surprisingly good dunkel all in all. Great job!

Keg at Reading BF. Reddish-brown with a thick cream head. Rather thin and fizzy. A little caramel and a little nutty dryness. On the bland side but inoffensive.

Schön im Malz mit dieser feinen kernigen Süffigkeit gesegnet. Dahinter noch etwas an Karamell, leicht im Getreide und ausgewogener Perlung. Sehr mild und ebenso angenehm zu trinken. Daumen noch.

Bottle from Dilo in Bochum. The beer has got a deep dark brown colour with a steady head and medium body. Aroma of bread and malt. Taste of dark bread, malt, dark fruits, straw, wheat and mild hops. Easy and smooth to drink, enjoyed it.

My Bottom Line:
This admirable Dunkel proposes toasted malts upon earthy, leafy hops in a soft and drinkable mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam garnishes the reddish dark brown.
-The mouthfeel is appropriately lean while leaving just enough sugars for the teeth to sink into.
-Hop bitterness is mild.
-This somehow provided as much malt flavor as their richer Bock.

On tap at the brewpub.

Bottle from Bacchinalia, Cambridge. Consumed at home. Chocolate/cola brown, little head, plentiful carbonation. Chocolate, caramel, mulled spice and malt on the nose. Taste is sweet without being cloying; however, it doesn’t seem to have a lot of depth... fades to a medium short finish. Malty caramel aftertaste. This is a by-the-numbers dunkel: you can’t fault it, but it fails to inspire.
