bartlebier (3191) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - MAR 23, 2016
50cl bottle bb04/2016 at Pelikan, Bamberg on St Patrick’s Day. Bref: Rich fruit marmelade-slathered breadcrust (Landbrot, of course) on just the right amount of lager octanes to be inbibed in perfect harmony with a chilly spring evening. One of many instances of Franconian dry nectar.

50cl bottle from the brewpub. Pours clear dark deep golden colour with a small white head. Aroma of toasted malt and nuts. Taste of toasted malt nuts, bitter hoppy fnish, nice!

Tap (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Oktoberfest 2015)
Rich orange, tight head. Lovely grainy aroma, plenty of sweet black tea. Taste is even grainier, some husks and bran, some bitter undergrowthiness. Herbal bitter finish, nice tingle. Very decent indeed, almost more a dunkel than a marzen. Refreshing and characterful.

Bottle. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Thick malty nose, with some grass, light honey, and a touch of smoke. Dark amber color. Malty and toasty initial, rich but not overdone fruit and grass, very little smoke in flavor. Rich and pleasant. Could probably use a little more smoke.

Bottle from the brewery. Glowing dark orange with a low head. A bit darker than the lagerbier. Clear. Caramel and peach in the nose, a touch of smoke. Flavor is caramel, rye bread, peaches. Smooth and light yet full bodied. Very bitter and herbal like the lager, though not as much so.

At the brewpub, 12 August 2014. Deep gold in colour with a decent, white, head. This was similar to the same brewery’s Lagerbier, being slightly less bitter with some more fruit evident. Very good.

Mortlach (1775) - Rome, ITALY - MAR 23, 2014
22/03/2014 Ma che siete venuti a fà. Servita a caduta dalla botticella al FrankenFest. Dorata limpida, viva, schiuma bianca abbondante e persistente. Al naso sentori di pane, cereali, miele, leggera luppolatura, erbacea, delicata. In bocca ha un attacco dolciastro e un finale amaro e pulito, forse appena un po’ "vuota". Corpo leggero, carbonazione media. Buona.

Draft at Knoblach. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs), lightly yeasty (dough), with a light note of metal. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, slightly metallic. A little metallic, but otherwise pleasant and crisp.
