Yellow orange, with a sweet light beery aroma. Taste is surprisingly estery, without much obvious alcohol. Clean high gravity malt liquor. Not bad, especially for india. 87 rupees/650 ml

A classic Indian strong beer - has a fruity undertone owing to the esters...full flavored strong beer. Has an iconic status in South of India. A right to passage - into manhood, the Enfield Bullet of beers.

Well, having just seen off a curryhouse-style Estonian cardamom beer it’s only right I should crack open a bottle of REAL Indian stuff for comparison. Again, massive thanks to Nav for bringing me this one back from Bangalore. Bright, skunky, rabbit hutch lightly sprayed with lime aroma- certainly a promising start. Not so easy on the nose once it’s been poured- rust and rotting beach mat notes predominate. Flavour, as with the Kingfisher Blue, at first arrestingly pine-like, fresh and papery; but very quickly this mingles into a displeasing fizz of dissolvable aspirin, lime juice, glycerol sliminess and rubber car mat (if you’ve ever eaten one). Alcohol exceptionally well hidden by the lime and car mat. Little gnaw of biscuit on the end, even peanut, suggesting this beer really contains malt. Nav reckons he can kill 2x 660ml bottles of this in a session no problem, and having tasted its easy-going, likeable sliminess (with a twist of lime) I almost believe him.

Bottled. A golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of citrus. The flavor is sweet malty combined with skunky notes of brewing cereal and caramel, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish. Thanks Madsberg for bringing this to Denmark.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of madsberg. Golden beer with floating impurities and a small, white head that leaves some lacework. Sweet aroma of alcohol and brewing cereal. Medium body, light, fruity notes, very sweet brewing cereals and then a fairly punchy alcohol in the finish. But surprisingly quaffable. My favorite Indian beer so far. 191207
