Almost opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Palate is light and minerally crisp. Tangy dark malts and tangy dark chocolate. Little chicory coffee. Malt cream. Finishes light with an almost appley tang. Not bad.

Douberd (2058) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - APR 7, 2014
Bottle 330 ml at home, thanks to Lonick! Poured into a snifter, ABV 6.5% Very dark brown colour on the body, one finger of thick brown head, with very good retention. Medium lacing left on the glass. Aroma of liquorice, grassy hops, light chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, liquorice, plenty of coffee on the finish, quite bitter aftertaste. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very good.

Cask at Cloisters. Rich dark pours, thick tan head. Big roast and chocolate aromas, vanilla in there, creamy too. Taste is more, with a building fruitiness, finishing dark chocolate and roast malt. Really enjoyed this - worth seeking out on cask.

Scopey (6238) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 26, 2013
Bottle from Appellation Wines. It pours dark brown (nr. black) with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, earth, light sweetness, vanilla, marshmallow, rock road and caramel. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, toast, earth, light acidity, plum, prune, light stickiness and brown bread with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth, tasty and well-balanced. Good stuff.

Bottle at Bruce’s - London. Many thanks to Paul. Pours clear brown with a creamy tan cap. Nose has dusty milk chocolate and mellow coffee. Light sweet flavor, some lightly tangy dark malts, some ash, chalky cocoa, mild earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine, somewhat creamy carbonation. Moderate roasty malt finish, some dry coffee, dirt, char. Decent.

A nice flavoursome dark beer. Hoppy, chocolate, toffee and caramel flavours. A nice winter beer.

(Bottle) Black or near-black beer with a beige head and a sweet, toasty-malt aroma. The first taste is a malt and hop mix but it’s a dry, fruity finish that makes it. The fruit lingers nicely too.

From the cask at State Bar, Glasgow - clear very dark brown, good bubbly beige head, roasted malt and berry fruit aroma, no lacing, complex flavour with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, berry fruits, very easy to drink for the abv

tombyars (1348) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - MAR 30, 2013
330ml bottle from Hippo Beers, Glasgow on March 2013. Pours a dull black with a creamy tan head. Ripe fruit notes of blackcurrants present in the long malty aroma. Smooth creamy mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Dark malt complex gives a burnt toast note with initial black malt which fades away to notes of rich dark chocolate, mocha coffee and sweet blackcurrant fruit layered in the mouth. Just a hint of spicy hop resins hyere but difficult to detect, wood smoke and roast flavours evident in the drying aftertaste. Smooth malty finish with a hint of liquorice and port. An excellent porter and highly recommended.
