From bottle. Pours black with thin tan head. Thick aroma, quite hoppy with licorice, chocolate and coffee, hint of smoke, the aroma is bordering on a black ipa almost, some alcohol present. Taste has similar flavours but in different proportions, more roastyness, coffee more up front, Chocolate and the hops take a back seat. Quite sticky on the palate. Very good, very interesting and unique

(Bottle) Black or near-black beer with a beige head and a sweet, toasty-malt aroma. The first taste is a malt and hop mix but it’s a dry, fruity finish that makes it. The fruit lingers nicely too.

330ml bottle from Hippo Beers, Glasgow on March 2013. Pours a dull black with a creamy tan head. Ripe fruit notes of blackcurrants present in the long malty aroma. Smooth creamy mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Dark malt complex gives a burnt toast note with initial black malt which fades away to notes of rich dark chocolate, mocha coffee and sweet blackcurrant fruit layered in the mouth. Just a hint of spicy hop resins hyere but difficult to detect, wood smoke and roast flavours evident in the drying aftertaste. Smooth malty finish with a hint of liquorice and port. An excellent porter and highly recommended.

What isn’t to like about this beer? It has a lovely roasty, nose, malty on first taste, then followed by hop. It has a beautiful mouth feel and a well weighted balance.
