4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
What isn’t to like about this beer? It has a lovely roasty, nose, malty on first taste, then followed by hop. It has a beautiful mouth feel and a well weighted balance.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a chestnut hue around the edge of the glass. There is a very generous and beautifully proportioned head. The nose has dark chocolate and hazelnuts with a distinct macerated cherry note that comes through more. The taste has a lovely ’fruit and nut’ bar effect - raisins, on the outset, then chocolate and finishing on a drying hazelnut note. The palate is beautifully balanced being medium to large in structure, thick and creamy in texture and with a finish that falls away nicely. If I can be slightly pedantic, I would prefer slightly less carbonation in this Old World style as it takes a little away from the creaminess in my opinion. Overall, a pleasure to drink and his best effort yet.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(Bottle) Black or near-black beer with a beige head and a sweet, toasty-malt aroma. The first taste is a malt and hop mix but it’s a dry, fruity finish that makes it. The fruit lingers nicely too.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Cornelius at home with Sev. Pours a lovely dark brown colour with a ruby glow and a thin, light tan head. Aroma of chocolate drops, coffee and aniseed. I was expecting an IPA, both this is really malty and delicious. Long, lingering roasty malt, dark cooking chocolate and some piney hops at the back. Delicious!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From bottle. Pours black with thin tan head. Thick aroma, quite hoppy with licorice, chocolate and coffee, hint of smoke, the aroma is bordering on a black ipa almost, some alcohol present. Taste has similar flavours but in different proportions, more roastyness, coffee more up front, Chocolate and the hops take a back seat. Quite sticky on the palate. Very good, very interesting and unique

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
[cask at Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh] Pours black with a decent, and long-lasting, tan-coloured head. Rich, fruity aromas, chocolate malt on the nose, some alcohol. Plenty of flavours going on – some liquorice, blackcurrant, and dark malt. Finish is long and hoppy, with alcohol prevalent on the aftertaste. It’s a thick, smooth porter with a meaty, ovaltine edge to it – clearly a winter warmer. Hoppier than I was expecting too. Good stuff
