COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A beer true to the traditional style of IPA but with some contemporary elements. The beer is 5% abv which enables it to be enjoyed by the pint as well as in bottle.
The malt used is Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt, ideally suited for this style of beer.
The star of the show in an IPA should be the hops. Our IPA has a bitterness of 40 IBU which provides an invigorating bitterness hit and a refreshing aftertaste.
The hops used are New World hops which in general provide a more intense flavour and aroma than their European counterparts. The hops are added in three stages. The first addition is for bitterness and is added at the start of the boil, the second is for flavour and is added 5 minutes from the end of the boil and the third is added once the boil has finished and provides the hop aroma without the mouth drying effect of dry-hopping.

This makes a pleasant session beer which leaves me wanting more. Which is a pleasant change. Its not heavily hopped but has a nice grapefruity edge to it but not long lasting.

Bottle. A nondescript beer that delivered very little of the hops promised by the brewer. An easy drinker that is pretty cheap.

Bottle from Vino WIne Shops, Morningside
Amber, some haze, thin frothy white head, minimal lacing
Aroma - pale sweet malts, light hay, soft grassy hops, light citrus, not very hoppy
Taste - pale sweet malts, hay malts, soft grassy hop. bit of citrus zest, not that hoppy, good balance between malt and hops though, generally subtle and easy drinking
Palate - soft carb, medium body. Finish as main flavour with short light zesty linger.
Overall - I agree that it has been classified as a Golden Ale, it’s not hoppy enough to be a true IPA, but it’s pleasant subtle beer. I think it’s rather underated here.

A initial sour bitterness hides a deep but well textured ale with an excellent, slightly hopped nose.

Cask by handpump at Halfway House, Edinburgh (9 Jun 12) - clear golden ale, thin white head, vegetable aroma, malty, bitter with a bit of astringency, not my thing

Really safe hop notes, almost Lucozade style stagnant bubbles in a hefty carbonation. Almost cream soda wrapped hops, awkward for an IPA even at 5%. Nothing shining through from any angle on the palate. Frustrating safe rather than disappointing number.

Pours nice clear golden amber. Not much head. White with fairly large bubbles. Nice caramel aroma with a little bit of citrus. Medium bitter taste with very little sweetness. Light body with a thin texture and a bit of carbonation. Average lenght of finish with bitter notes. The hops are not coming through in a proper way though. Fairly average.
