Clear, dark amber beer. Malt and strong caramel in the aroma. Taste is also a malt/caramel mix and a toasty edge, but not as strong as I expected from the flavour. It’s almost refreshing though a touch "thin" for want of a better word. Quite drinkable though.

On cask at Three Judges, Glasgow - Chestnut brown body with a lacing white head. The nose is a malty treacle, coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium bodied with a malty chocolate style taste, one for a session I’d say.

Tasted this in the Bon Accord, Glasgow on 31st January 2014. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with a thin white head. Strong notes of roast malt evident in the long nose. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Mixed malts give a decent maltloaf base with notes of smoke roast malt, raisin fruit and orange peel. Earthy hop resins impart a light bitterness to the aftertaste which is very short lived. Malt dominant in the finish with hints of tobacco, drinking chocolate powder and orange peel. This is a traditional Scottish 80/ in style and it had hints of Traquair Bear Ale lurking in there!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Looks good out of the bottle showing a rich luscious reddy brown. Very few signs of head anywhere. Tastes of slightly dilute toffee with dark & dry malt dominating leading role a sharp short end. A bit Spritzy for my liking but there is also some smoothness there which supports a beer of modest body. Interesting.

Clear chestnut brown with a moderate light tan covering.
Nose is malt forward, fruit tang, mildew, apple akin.
Taste is musty, rotten apple notes, bready malt, sprucey, herbal tang.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry climax with bitter herbal notes.
Bit of a mess!

Bottle, pours a red/brown colour, nutty and caramel on the nose. A salt caramel macaroon taste to it, it also tastes clean, good but not great.

Cask in No 1 High Street, Edinburgh. Deep brown with a thin white head. Quite clean and a little bit thin, although I got more into it as the pint progressed. Malty, caramel, toffee. Not bad, not sure if I’d call it brisk though.

Pours a light but dark red body, little to no head.... Quite a burnt/roasted aroma, a fairly clean taste with a very light malt back tongue leading on to a subtle bitter aftertaste. Quite a safe sessionable drink with a bit more body than the California Common. Cheers!
