Beese (1099) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 18, 2013
Draft at The Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a cloudy light amber colour with a scummy off white head. Aroma of grass, straw and earthy notes. Quite sweet initial flavours of overripe fruit and caramel with some floral hops. Bitter hop resins come in on the palate, but they’re a bit watery and there’s a lingering metallic taste.

Very nice hazy amber body with small creamy head. Beautiful hop and malty aroma. Wide variety of citrus and fruity notes through caramel to some bready and herbal scents. Tastes also great, but citrus is dominant at first sip. Then you’ll notice nice medium bitterness which stays to the aftertaste. Well balanced and nice evolving taste. [Tap at Varnsdorf brewery]

Tap at GBBF 2013. It pours hazy amber with a thick yellow-white head. The nose is earth, wood, leather, resinous, brown bread, stone fruit, orange and peach. The taste is wood, leather, caramel, resin, earth, spicy, crisp bitterness and brown bread. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Good balance and high drinkability.

Keg at Euston Tap. Medium brown with orange tints and lace. Rich caramel nose, toffee, a bit earthy, minerals. Mineral toffee and earth flavors, a bit thin. Ok. Not completely successful.

Bottle, a trade with Geophagus. Pours slightly hazy amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of hops with notes of citrus and grass. Intense, hoppy flavour with citric, actually sourish notes. Bitter aftertaste with sourish notes. Interesting and well-balanced, but I am not sure whether the sourishness is supposed to be a deliberate effect.

Bottle, 4.1%. Mild grapefruity aroma. Muddy dark brown colour. Small frothy off-white head. The flavour is grapefruity and lemony. Very citric, and it is not quite clear if it is intended. Lemon peel bitterness. A bit strange at first, but actually rather refreshing.

(Draught at Zubaty Pes, Prague, 18 July 2013) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of citrus, caramel, orange peel and black-currant. Fruity, hoppy taste with citrus, orange peel, hints of grapefruit, caramel and a generous citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. The fairly low alcohol level and the fresh hop character makes this a highly drinkable pale ale. Nice one.
