Rare Beer Club bottle: pours a hazy golden. huge fluffy white head. What an interesting nose. FUNK is the word. always wondered what an earthy basement aroma with some yeasty cheese smelled like. simply odd and made you wondering what youíre going to get. Pretty slick in texture. citrus fermenting fruit with a bit of unique hop strain that adds upfront bitterness briefly that quickly fades for a soft finish. Interesting to say the least. Enjoyable.

Sampled at Lithyís Tennessee/Ole Miss tasting. Wow. This is one of the most unique beers Iíve ever had. The aroma is one of the stinkiest, cheesiest that I have ever smelled. EXTREMELY funky. Which makes you prepare for a sour beer, but surprisingly, not what you expect. Not like an ipa at all. So funky citrus hoppy flavor. This is wierd, but I think i like it?

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2011 This has gotten considerably better with age, has Avery nice bretty profile with crisp mineral and metallic notes, bottle, hazy golden yellow with thin foam, aroma of some stinky cheeses, flavor is sour playdoh and rotten fruit, pretty bad

bottle thanks to GregMcQ. He shared this at the Freetail La Muerta release. Pours a cloudy yellow with a white head. Nose is Wow! weird with spices and perfume. Has a funky taste as Iím not used to this combination of these hops and spices. Mouthfeel is carbonated and bitter. This one was strange.

This beer pours a cloudy yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is old skunk. The mouthfeel is acidic, dry and bitter. Cheers!

(draught 0,5l) Sweet, nice hoppy/hay/herbs aroma. Hazy golden color. Huge creamy white head. Medium sweet. Nice herbs/hoppy taste. Medium body. Long very bitter, astringent, dry finish. Very good beer.

750 ml bottle poured a hazy gold with a lasting off white head. Aromas of straw, earthiness, spicy hops, light citrus and a hinmt of pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiness, spicy hops, light pine and light citrus with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish.

Bottle from MJ Rare Beer Club. Sorry, Rare Beer Club, but you failed with this one. I have to agree with you, Walt, this is definitely NOT an IPA in any way, shape, or form. If you gave this to me blindfolded, I would identify it as a very funky Saison, similar to some Fantomes that Iíve had. Nose is funky, with a noticeable fecal quality. Hops are definitely there, but bitterness predominates over aroma/flavor. "Astringent" is a good descriptor, too. Some sourness, and OK to drink if Iím not thinking "IPA". Iím just really trying to get the "Czech IPA" thing, and I canít. Maybe this batch spent a long time on a hot tarmac somewhere, but Iíd definitely relabel as a "Czech Farmhouse Ale".

Pour is sort of a hazed golden color with a fluffy and big soapy white head...smell is strange...just strange...I donít know what it is that Iím smelling...not infected or struck...but cheese rind and feet mixed with grapefruit, fruit juice, and grassy hops...the taste...what the fuck...this beer is just a disaster...strongly astringent and bitter...another rater mentioned "aggressive hopping"...as if "aggressive hopping" is akin to a serial rapist being called "a handsy fellow"...lots of weird fruit juice and tart (but not in the good way) flavors too...just getting more astringent and oddly and unpleasantly bitter toward the finish...maybe some grape flavors and pear flavors are in there too...who knows....blech!!!!!

750ml from the MJBC. Hazy pale orange pour with a thick head and impressive effervescence. Nose is ripe and just this side of being off. Sharp and extremely herbal/grassy hops with an abundance of grapefruit in the nose. body is medium, with the intense bitterness almost masking for booze, despite the low ABV. Overpowering impression of drinking fresh pink grapefruit, which to me is quite enjoyable. Funky, fruity, dry, and with a yeastiness that recalls unfiltered Czech pilsners. Nice, quirky, and definitely enjoyable.
