Bottled. Unclear amber coloured one with a small off-white head on its top. Intensively malty aroma escorted by molasses, dried fruits and alcohol underpainted by hints of smoke. Sticky and oily texture. Medium to long and dry, liquorique finish with spices and alcohol. Nice one for (cold) evenings.

Pours mahagon, amber. Quite flat. Nose has a bit of caramel. Nothing too exciting, although I was hoping for something. Taste has caramel, bit of smoke but vegetables and iron also there.. Aftertaste is bitter and messy . Probably not in its best condition.

(500 ml bottle @ Alles Elbe, Hamburg) Hazy chestnut-coloured beer with a creamy head, interspersed with some larger bubbles. Looks quite appealing to me. On the nose there’s a lot of dried fruit - raisins and the like. The beer was advertised as Scotch Ale, so that seems fitting. In the mouth though, it’s a different matter. Much more strongly hopped than I expected, therefore with resinous notes as well. And then of course plenty of roasted malty aroma that accumulates on the roof of the mouth. A very subtle smokiness too, but I might have missed that without reading the deScription! The whole thing is not subtle at all, though. Intense aroma and bitterness, and solid malty body. Although I have come to value lighter drinkable beers more, I was quite impressed with this stronger one! (And no infection whatsoever detectable in the bottle I had, might I add, as I read the other reviews)
