corkyrory66 (1394) - BELGIUM - MAR 25, 2016

Geur: zoetige moutgeur. Smaak: zoetig met klein bittertje. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Romig mondgevoel. Afdronk: bitterig – zoetig.

Golden amber body, very clear. Indeed a filtered aroma with caramel, light nutty, sugar syrup. Boring. Alcoholic taste, faint bitter. Poor beer, very poor. (33cl bottle from Dranken Pauwels)

Bottle, pours a bit unclear amber. Small white head. Smell is bit sweet, touch of malts. Taste is bit sweet, nice malty body, yeasty. Hints of hops as well. Nicely balanced. Good mf and carbo.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 11/2017, at One Pint Pub, 20151204) The beer poured deep amber and rather clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had honey, sweetness, tea and grass. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, honey, grass, malts and bitternes. Aftertaste had honey and bitterness. A decent tripel. Nothing disturbing.

75cl from Tommelin Dikkebus. Looks like a tripel, tastes like a triple. Nothing special and near identical to the product of larger breweries. While commendable, pointless.Bit miffed as it cost double the price of many better beers.

Maenhout’s first, tasted when it first came onto the market. Loose, cream white head, misty peach blonde colour with slightly brownish hue. Aroma starts off nicely with apple, coriander, orange peel, and then it makes a turn for the worse with my friends H2S (rotten egg), DMS (cooked cabbage) and sweat... Fruity taste, malt sweetness, slick and elegant with grassy hops but then there’s the retronasal DMS ruining it. I must have had a bad bottle and I suspect this has much improved meanwhile, viewing the other ratings here and viewing the quality of their current beers. Time to give it a second chance.
