Can, courtesy of MiP. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, off-white head. Malty-sweet nose with some alcohol. The flavor is pretty much the same, with some bitterness added. Full-bodied and way too warming. It’s sort of drinkable, and not completely awful, and I bet it does its job, get you drunk really fast for little money. 091024

So what does the extra kick of more alcohol do to the Koenigsbier recipe? Well it looks okay, some head but not exciting in appearance, carbonated yellow that won’t turn any heads. Smells of wet bread and hops. Taste is syrupy, malts and caramel, finish of wood and oak. I think I liked the less offensive non-forte version better.

canned, from supermarket Casino, Morteau, France - clear golden colour with a poor head retention; aroma of solvant and oranges; sweet and full-bodied, no bitterness and a long fruity finish with lot of residual sugars and a late alcohol touch

My prejudices had me for some stupid reason thinking this would be a better beer just based upon the label. Wrongo boyo. Poured a soap bubble off white head and a little lace. Color is a rich brass. Aroma seems to be a common world beer in cans over here in europe of that hop that smells a little skunky but has nothing to do with being light struck (it’s in a can). Flavor is beery bittersweet which is way more sweet than bitter. Finish is same as flavor and too long. Don’t care for this beer and I wish the finish was even shorter.

Clear medium yellow orange color with a small average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, sweet malt, malt / brew syrup, apple - raw fruit. Flavor is moderate sweet and light light bitter with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20091024]
