fidel (886), Livermore, California, USA Jul 25, 2008 Black, light roasted malt, Molasses, caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, dry, slight hops. xibalba89 (147), New York, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 Got a bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of dark malts and hops. The flavor has tons of dark malts and bitter hops, but not too bitter. I didn’t think it was as creamy as other people have said... it has a certain dryness in the finish that left me just wanting more. A really great beer. radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 19, 2008 Pours a deep dark black with a medium tan head. This beer has a malty, somewhat sweet aroma that is populated by chocolate, coffee, vanilla. The flavor is quite similar, with a creamy texture. A quite wonderful beer. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jul 4, 2008 Updated: Aug 31, 2008pours dark black with medium tan head.
Aroma is very appetizing coffee & molasses, some chocolate, rye bread, light vanilla.
Flavour is quite bitter after that sweet aroma. Burnt malt, bitter choc., molasses and vanilla. well blended alc.
A little thin tasting for me though.
pahakala (4), , Finland does not count Jun 28, 2008 This not really a porter, more like stout.
The flavour says "burnt rye bread" to me.
Not really my favourite zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Jun 26, 2008 Bottle purchased at Gordon’s n New London, CT.
Pours tar, thin tan head. Aroma is molasses, malt, coffee, anise, vanilla, caramel, pine. Flavor is the same and smoky chocolatey with roastiness. This is a damn good porter even if I do say so myself esox (259), Oulu, Finland Jun 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with creamy and long-lasting brown head. Nice lace formation. Aromas are deep, rye bread-like roasted malts and sour cocoa beans Also a hint of dried fruits. Flavor starts sour and finishes chalky dry with a medium bitteration and wonderful chocolate aroma. Hops are somehow earthy and robust but it fits well with this beer. Alcohol is very well hidden. Slick and thin texture, medium body. One of the best finish beers. Distinctive character of this beer is always as enjoyable. trevitron (10), Washington DC, USA Jun 11, 2008 Bottle. Appearance is cola black with a small brown head. Aroma is chocolate, but flavor is somewhere between soy sauce and ketchup with elements of coffee. That combination is not necessarily unappealing, though. Dry and thin, with a chalky and earthy aftertaste. Doesn’t do it for me right now, but it leaves me intrigued.
