LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jun 8, 2008 11.2oz bottle, bottled 1998. Pours pitch black in color with very thin brown head. Aroma sweet, molasses and malt. Taste coffee, malasses and bitter chocolate with dry finish. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 7, 2008 From By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a rich dark, thick, nightmare black with a pillowy gray-brown head. Sweet Baltic nose with a roasted and little metallic bite, but subtle. Complex flavors of chalky chocolate, carob, dry wine, and roasted almond. Excellent finish of smooth, crisp and robust dark decadence. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA May 26, 2008 Thanks to Girlie for this one. Last one of the bunch that she sent to me for my birthday. Agree with the previous post - Scandanavian brewers have nailed this style. Gorgeous deep/dark pour and a fluffy, long-lasting rich tan head. Takes a good 5 minutes for the head to dissipate. Aroma is slightly sweet, with the heavy aroma of roasted malt. Slight hoppiness in the aroma as well. Flavor is consistent with aroma - strong roasted flavors with coffee and slight chocolate. Nice bitterness on the back of the palate to round out the full flavor of this one. Excellent brew. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 23, 2008 Bottle at the brickstore. I think the norwegians have the porter style figured out. This one is pretty intense not only in its aroma but also in its flavor. Roasted malt aromas with some coffee and slight cocoas as well. Flavor is much of the same but has a little sweetness and a bitterness to it as well. Very enjoyable, complex, and smooth. bermod (118), Lappeenranta, Finland May 15, 2008 Updated: Jul 20, 2008Aroma is roasted and burnt malts, cocoa, and coffee. Strong and creamy flavor with a lot of roasted and burnt malts, chocolate, coffee and hops. Very smooth mouthfeel is relatively thin. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA May 13, 2008 This has got to be the best porter that I have ever tried, and I am not a big fan of that style, but this is delicious. This is a big malty treat, lots of roasted chocolate, caramel, coffee and other delights, perhaps a bit of toffee, but extremely rich and creamy. Delightful! DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2008 1st impression was wow!!! There is as much flavor in this as any beer will ever have. The aroma is undeniable. Malts ahoy, some chocolate, maybe molasses, and coffee. It’s appearance was a little disappointing, it was rather nil on the head scale, with a black body, and minimal head. The flavor is overwhelming, with alchohol, expresso, dark chocolate, malt, and maybe toffee or caramel. It’s feel is a bit bitter, and at times a bit too much, but all in all that should be expected a bit given it’s complexity. Nice! Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a rich brown color with tannish frothy head the fades quickly. Aroma is of semi-sweet chocolate, carmel, and molasses. Taste is caramel, molasses, traces of dark fruit and earth. Alcohol is well hidden but the earthiness lends to a bit of a dry finish. Still, it holds its own.
