5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 ads135 (287) - Lawrence, USA - NOV 20, 2011
The first "best beer" I’ve had. Like drinking delicious motor oil. Thick, creamy, with a dark brown head and opaque black coloration. Chocolate, licorice, with a persistent sweetness. Originally bought this at Wine 101 in Warrensburg, (10/10/2007) later found a bottle aged from 2000 in Lawrence.

Smell is sweet with chocolate, vanilla and cognac. Taste is sweet and fullbodied with roasted malt, coffee, a slight tartness and slight bitterness. Finish is dry and bitter with lots of coffee.

330 ml bottle. Pours deep black, the big chocolate coloured head makes it seem as though the beer is brown. Aroma and taste are primarily bitter roasted malt. Very smooth and no alcohol taste at all. Very drinkable!

Pours a very dark brown, almost black color. Thick dark brown head present. Aroma is of sweeter malts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, and some lactic. Flavor is also of sweeter chocolate malts, a little lactic, slight coffee, and toffee. Nice lacing with this one. Leaves a nice roasty finish. Perfect beer for a cold and crappy night like tonight.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 GTAEgeek (437) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - OCT 25, 2011
12 oz. bottle. Pours pitch black with a thin brown head. The aroma is chocolate, toffee, toast, dates, and licorice. The flavor is very sweet and roasty, with a little bitterness in the finish. The palate is medium to heavy, sticky, and grainy. Overall, this is a well made and delicious porter, with strong flavor and pleasant aroma.
