xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Jul 23, 2007 A forced drink at 1:15 on a monday because the beer broke open on me when moving beers. Opaque black with tan head. Aroma is doughy, alc, smoked dark malts, and some dark choclate. Flavor is dark fruits, black licorice, choclate, alc, smoke, and little bitterness. Med thin body with no carb to speak of but that could be due to the whole dropping process. Overall I pretty nice but will have to rerate at a later date. skortila (2875), Bunnik, Netherlands Jul 21, 2007 Tap @ In de Wildeman. Aroma of blackcurrant and coffee. Opaque black coloured with a brown, thin head. Taste is sweet with a quite hard bitter finish. Malty, coffee, some fruits in it. Bullit (1300), Glasgow, Scotland Jul 15, 2007 Black, beige head. Aromas of coffee. Flavours: coffee, coffee cream, caramel, blackbarries. Lots of bitterness, dry bitter aftertaste. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 14, 2007 33 cl bottle. Best before 6/27/03 ! How old is this sucker? Pours an oily black with a big bubbled, mocha head. Thick lace ladders. Licorice, tobacco and black coffee. Hints of marzipan as it warms. Medium body with a touch of carb. Scrumptious bittersweet chocolate, baked apple and plum. Finishes espresso with lime peel. Maybe my oldest beer. Seems to have a more concentrated flavor but i’ve not tried a fresh one. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Jul 14, 2007 Tap @ In de Wildeman. Dark black color, short dark brown head. Aroma of some coffee and licorice, quite weak though, some candy sugar, dark fruit. Very clean and very bitter taste, not expected because hops are not abundant in aroma. Very malty, coffee. Clean bitter palate. rayg1 (432), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Jul 13, 2007 Pours a black color with a dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malts and weak coffee. Taste is actualy pretty sweet with dark candi sugar and dark fruits (mostly plums) hitting the tounge. A light roasted flavor hits at the very end of the sip. Didn’t taste the soy sauce that others were getting in fact I thought that this beer was very sweet and not really salty at all. Good stuff and would have again. Cajun (144), New Iberia, Louisiana, USA Jul 10, 2007 Bottle - Pours dark brown/black, tan head. Notes of sweet malt, roasted nuts, coffee, bitter hops. Flavor is not as complex as I thought: coffee, roasted malt, bitter baking chocolate, dry aftertaste.... a hint of fruit. Decent mouthfeel with a finish of hops.
