UPDATED: JAN 15, 2009 33 cl, bb L70465N. Opaque black with a huge sugary head. Cocoa, caramel and coffee aroma. Tastes of dry cocoa, charred wood, lightly sweetened coffee, and some peppery herb. Medium-bodied, chalky, and has some tongue-tingle.

11.2 oz bottle purchased at Spirits RB. Pours a viscous pitch black with a large foamy brown head, the body is great but the head needs a little work. Initial aroma of tobacco, espresso, roastiness and an underlying sweetness to it all. Medium bodied that is light on carbonation and finishes bitter sweet. Very roasty flavor overall with notes of tobacco and a slight burnt flavor but towards the end there is a burst of dark sweetness. Wow I was expecting nothing and got something, something pretty darn good that is.

Black. Dark brown head. Aroma is rich with roasted malt, sweetness... Flavor follows very well, fine balance between dry roasted flavors and the rich sweet malt. Oily feel and long balanced finish.

33cL bottle into pint glass. Pours a deep, dark black with a light, dark tan head that dissipates quickly. Heavy aromas of caramel, butter and roasted malts with a hint of coffee. Flavor is of dark chocolate, toffee, roasted malts, and a slight plum finish. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Great Baltic porter.

11-11-07 bottle
Alcohol molasses and sugar aroma - reminds me of my alcoholic grandma’s sugar and gingerbread cookies. Highly carbonated in comparison to what I was expecting - not heavy at all. Watery in the finish. Has a sweet, almost smoky developed flavor though. Quite light in weight and overly bubbly - but the flavor does actually stand out. Can taste hints of alcohol as it warms.

bottle thanks to Beerlando
Black pour with a quickly fading bubbly fizzy brown head. Smell is a touch of soy, molasses, some figgyness and heavily of peat, much like a scotch ale. Nice medium body that isn’t too thin or thick, with a slight worcestershire tastes. Dull fig flavor as well and tastes too much like a peaty, Mcewan’s scotch ale or Traquair house to me. Nicely made beer, but the flavors just aren’t for me.
