Aroma of dark fruits, some coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor, molassas, prunes, coffee. Pretty solid. Picked up a 1998 bottle that I can’t wait to try.
Re-rate: 1998 vintage: Black with a small tan head. Aroma, some fruits, chocolate, and a hint of soy. Flavor, sweet chocolaty, some coffee, a bit of soy again, but nothing offensive. It held up pretty damn well. TheBeerOrg (1568), Kentucky, USA

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Very tasty. A bit thin bodied for a porter, but I will buy this again. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA

Dark, dark brown and opaque in color with a very full and creamy, almost fluffy, head that lasts with a dark beige color and minimal lacing; head looks like a rootbeer float. Nose is a little weak but not unpleasant; notes of butter and chocolate with some fruitiness and a rootbeer-like smell. Taste is curious, not like other strong, dark ales; dark chocolate, burnt toast, dark cocoa, a curius sour note, some lightly roasted coffee notes, and a moderate bitterness. Palate is medium, soft, and creamy, almost dry. Finishes with earthy hops, burnt chocolate, and mostly dry. Some excellent qualities but some abstract ones as well. Very easy drinking and a little scary at 7.2%. Egon (393), Gothenburg, Sweden

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2006 Pours opaque black with thick dark, brown head. The aroma is almost vinous - malts and chocolate, molasses and dark fruit. The flavor starts with lots of bitter cocoa and burnt toast. The subtle sweetness of the malts transition to more chocolate and some hop flavor. The finish has some hops and some fruit - and lots of chocolate. The mouthfeel is quite thick and full-bodied - but smooth and creamy thanks to the carbonation. pege58 (2), Finland does not count | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 22, 2006 Winter and cold weather are the friends of this dark and tasteful beer.
