You can tell this beer has some age to it,. but its not badly oxidized. dark chocolate, roast, coffee and those oxidative notes finish out the flavors with some burnt notes alongside. It held up pretty well, but the finish shows the oxidization.
Thick, dark, and clean. Goes down smooth and is tasty at any temperature. Tasty malt and a coffee/woody aftertaste makes this an enjoyable porter. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 1, 2005 Blackened pour (to begin whipping dance of the dead - anyone?), tan creamy head. Real nice nose on this with notes of bitter-sweet chocolate, roasted malt, plum, some cherry, and light caramel, with slight vinous undertones. Nice roasty flavors up front with tangy port, chocolate, and light roasted coffee predominate, but the back end kicks in some nice bitterness for balance. Medium bodied, soft and smooth carbonation, Sahara dry, roasted bittersweet chocolate finish. A very good porter from Finland of all places! Who knew...

Not much left after a few minutes. Aromas were heavy chocolate and roastiness and fresh baked bread. Flavor is sweet at first with a tight carbonation on the tip of the tongue. Coffee flavors are next. Some hoppy bitterings, and a rather subtle dustiness that just reminds you that this is a porter after all. Very good. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA

Flavor is very full and rich, lots of sweet malts nicely balanced with a dark chocolate/coffee bitterness. Full and vinous, lovely creamy texture. Nice. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2005 Bottle. Pours an almost opaque dark brown with thin tan head. Roasted malt is about half the aroma, with the other half being chocolate, raisin, and just a touch of wood. The flavor is also largely comprised of roasted malt, along with earthy hops, coffee, baking chocolate, and just a touch of biscuit. The body is just a shade thinner than I had expected, but not enough to detract too much. Tasty brew. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 6, 2005 Black body with a small head. Coffee and chocolate galore without much roast, very smooth. I enjoyed this one. Also faint hints of raisins. My first for the style, and for porters in general this is currently second only to Fullers. swoopjones (1933), Buffalo, New York, USA
