Really chocolatey and smooth, with a dark chocolate bitterness in the finish. Smooth, thickish mouthfeel, long finish. Its funny how some of the larger crappy lager breweries come up with gems like this. I was drinking this on a hot summers night and i still could have downed a couple more, its a shame i only had one. JorisPPattyn (5193), Antwerpen, Belgium

Coffee nose, but caramelly at the same time, quite sweet. Taste is fully roasted, scorched coffeebeans or breadcrust, sweetness just a faraway cry. After some time, a typical sourness from roasted barley appears, however restrained. Bit aggressive burning, and not at all full-bodied, thin for a 7.2 ABV beer. In the aftertaste a flavour as from brown sugar, but without any sweetness. OK, but nothing more. Thanks to lachesis for sharing this one. imdownthepub (5190), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

This beer seemed to be the guest beer in several Maastricht pubs on the day, a great find. Full of heavily roasted malt giving strong coffee notes with chocolate malt bitterness, in fact intensely bitter. On the beer warming up a slight tartness developed giving further depth. Yum. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 2, 2003 Bottled: Deep black coloured. Has a small chocolatebrown head. Liquorice, malt, fruits, roastyness and chocolate notes in the nose. Roasted coffee, fruits and a light bitterness in the flavour. A light liquorice touch. The alcahol is superply hidden. The flavours are well balanced. This beer kind of grows when you drink it. Man this was worth waiting for. It kind of took a long way from Finland over Evansville, Indiana to Copenhagen. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2007 Bottle. (trade w/tbone_) Pours very dark brown, almost black, and is topped by a creamy, beige head. Fruity and slightly oxidized nose, with chocolate and roasted malt. The same goes for the flavor, but there’s a weak note of coffee there as well. It finishes quite dry, with chocolate, roasted malt, some fruityness and bitterness. I would like a fuller body on the beer, and also some more hops, but it is definately a nice beer. (070809) MartinT (5080), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 24, 2007 2000 bottle. When uncapping, there was no sign of carbonation initially, but after pouring, a small tan head emerged atop a dark brown body. Smells of dark fruit, cloves, coffee, sugar, some warming alcohol, some oakiness, buttery vanilla. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, nuts, caramel and some spices. Mouthfeel is on par with a cognac and has a similar buttery finish. This is a well-rounded beer that apparently ages very well. Definitely worth the $1.19 I paid for the 12oz bottle!
