COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kokanee is a 5.0 percent alcohol (by volume) lager that is smooth, clean and lightly hopped. It is brewed with mountain stream fed water and a blend of 3 malts and features a unique combination of superior Western-grown North American hops. Brewed in the Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia by the Columbia Brewing Company, Kokanee is British Columbia's most popular beer over the last 10 years. Since its introduction to the Northwest U.S. in the summer of 1994, many people have discovered and enjoyed Kokanee's cool, crisp, glacier fresh taste.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2003 Very light afternoon beer, not much taste, but not as carbonated as macro beer. I remember it being better though.

Poor North-American lager, has fizz to it but also no good aromas or taste.

[084-20061103] Tap @ St.Louis (Toronto, ON). Grainy bread aroma. Clear, pale golden straw-coloured body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Grainy bread taste still, light booze, aftertaste is OK. Palate is a nice light feel. Comes together and is repeatable at a game, say, but is not particularly memorable.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2008 Bottle bought at the Utah State Store. Pours a very clear yellow with a small white head. Usually, I see a beer with this much clarity as a good thing in a pale lager. The aroma is is mostly skunky and metallic notes. The taste is pretty bad; first, it surprises me how much alcohol is in the taste, like a over fermented batch of corn and stagnant water. Some soap and odd metal in there too. Sorry, but this was pretty bad.

Bottle. Pours light gold with a white head. Light sweet malt aroma with grain and honey. Light clean body. Flavor is again malty with grain and a hint of grass. Not that bad.

Rockin’ the Kokanee! (You know chicks dig it, right?). 340mL bottle pours with a clear pale gold body that supports a white head. The aroma offers up corn, corn flakes, floral hops and grainy malts. The taste is similar with sweet malts, corn, floral hops and then some mild grainy malts that take a stab at balancing out the sweetness. It gets a bit mineral here and there too. Not bad as there is some balance achieved that offers a small island amid the sea of sweetness.

What can i say? I drank it when i was 16 and thought it was better than molson canadian and labatts. Today, having sipped a new one with a fresh mind, i can’t say much more. Avoid, unless your only choice is one of the aforementioned.

Bottled in B.C. Poured a clear bright golden with a medium cap of looser beige head... lots of rising carbonation. Nose was solid for the style... sweet pale malts, grassy hops, and nothing offensive. Flavor was about the same... on the sweeter side with primarily pale malts. Light-bodied with faint bitterness lingering. No real flaws here, but not much going for it either.
