On tap. Pours an almost opaque black with a vague tint of red and a handsome, light brown head. Hard roasted malts in the nose, well - almost burned malts actually. Quite full-bodied with distinct burned malt accents, some ashes and also in this one a vague malt tartness. Not many traces of the elderberries though. Distinct malt bitter finish. 070209

Pours a beautyful black with a beige/caramel coloured creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee some fruityness, roasted malts and caramel. Flavour of dark chocolate, coffee nicely roasted and a fruity bitter coffee aftertaste. Very nice creamyness and some viniousity.

MiP (13798) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - FEB 8, 2009
Draught, 8.8% at the brewhouse. Roasted and citric aroma. Almost black colour. Big brown head, quite stable. The flavour is roasted and burnt. Not so much sugar to balance, quite dry, also in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Hint of cardboard in the finish.

Draught at YNWA. Pitch black coloured with a medium sized beige head. Roasted aroma of coffee and berries with notes of chocolate. Roasted flavour of coffee, chocolate and berries. Dry roasted finish.

From tap at YNWA. Pours dark brown to black with a small, creamy and tan head. Roasted malty and chocolate aroma with a downplayed elderberry note. Smooth chocolate malty with a mild sweetness showing through. Nicely balanced and fruity finish with a decent level of acidic roastedness and mild sweet fruity flavours. Here the elderberry notes nicely compliment the stout, opposed to the flower version in which I felt the flavours were a slight bit too dominant.

Ungstrup (29846) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - FEB 7, 2009
Draft. Pitch black with a slight brown shine under a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and chocolate, with light notes of elderberries. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted and burnt malt, as well as medium notes of bitter dark chocolate, and light notes of elderberries. The finish is bitter, from the hard roasted malt, which also lends it a bit of acidity.
