3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TAR (2346) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - OCT 27, 2012
Draught @ Hotel Waldnaab in Neuhaus, 2009: Yellow gold appearance. Tight white head with spotty lace. Soft, bready, mineralic aromas. Intensely peppery, as well, with notes of lemon rind, uncured hay, honeysuckle and mild sulfur. Pleasant mouthfeel, snug carbonation. Sharply sulfury and peppery with a palate-scrubbing mineralic snap mirrored by equally vivid pils malt (toasted hay) kissed with faint biscuit. Some lemon cake heft, as well. Hops are floral and delightfully polished, boasting ample succulence along with a semi-coarse peppery and herbal accent. So little time for note-taking when a beer is this quaffable. Rustic, charming, fun.

on tap at the hotel, zoigl tag 2009 and 2010. golden with a light haze and a vague head; somewhat musty aroma of soggy tea leaves and old tins of peaches; grainy and quick with a tinny bitterness; left me a little underwhelmed compared to some of the other great offerings in neuhaus

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 3fourths (6932) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 19, 2009
draft at hotel waldnaab/sausewind stube, 2009 tag der kommunbrauer. dimpled mug. mostly clear light honey colored body with a silky fine-bubbled white head. frother, fresh, zesty and hoppy, smells and tastes of hearty/husky wheat and cracked cereal grains. wet and oily but a little more zest and bite than other zoigls, and has a heftier malt body. clean and snappy. pick up a little bit of soured mashed potatoes in the finish but that’s not as bad as it sounds. a wonderful zoigl - fresh, zesty, hoppy.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 bierkoning (8946) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - OCT 5, 2009
Tap @ Hotel Waldnaab, Neuhaus. Orange blonde, clear. Flowery earthy hopbitter flavor. Just a hint of citrus. Fairly low on aroma. Not the very best of the available zoigls, but good enough.
