Draught at Zoiglstube Wolfadl in Falkenberg, Nov 2012: Hazy pale orange. Ivory collar of broken yet creamy foam. Dull nose of wort, woody malt, candied pecan, orange marmalade, minerals, tealike hops, rock candy and yeast. Fluffy carbonation. Flimsy body. Upfront bite of taffylike yeast coats the tongue and pillars the deep notes of toasty, pecan-tinged malt. Soft floral hop flavors loom beneath the sturdy maltiness. Adequate cookie-malt grittiness digs firmly into the palate as a rich and slippery marmalade fruitiness rounds out the body. Earthy and leafy hops adorn the pistachio-like yeast character as delectable poundcake and a candylike bock dimension give length and depth to the finish. Not all that shabby, but it’s fruitier than I prefer my zoiglbier to be, and it seems somewhat unfinished as it’s quite sweet and yeasty. Ok, but not exactly memorable.

cloudy amber body with a small fine head. buttery smell with notes of wet hair / animal pelt / musk along with the more common grass / hay / bacteria. wafts of limburger cheese and hot dog fats are enjoyed. medium bitterness, hops are spicy, medium-high acid is a bit rough on the malt texture. medium body, decently frothy carbonation, lightly sweet with lingering honey and hay in the finish., but it’s also acidic and buttery and very gamey. sadly not a winner here, not this batch anyway. November 2014: now it’s even worse. Unfinished, wort-y and syrupy with a massive diacetyl problem. (2.0/5)

on tap in falkenberg on the tag before zoigltag 2010, thanks to mads for driving the 7 of us there despite room for only 5. anyways, quite a rich shade of amber with a light haze and a persistent off-yellow head; aroma with strong suggestions of menthol and honey leading into ginger confectionery; soft texture with only light carbonation; hints of polished floorboards and butterscotch with a dry herbal finish. classy stuff indeed and well worth stopping for a couple on the way to windischeschenbach

Cloudy dark yellow with stable white head. Aroma is farmy fresh moist grain and yeasty but clean. Fresh palate, quite chewy, with a lively feel on the tongue. Finishes with characteristic zoigl minerals. Brisk herbal hoppiness adds balance to the sweet yeasty character. Amazing how something so yeasty can taste so fresh and not at all like a kit beer. Earthy sweet salty and yeasty.

Cloudy and tan. The aroma is herbal hops. Dry, minerally palate. Grassy-lemony hop and a long, dry mineral finish.

Tap at Wolfadl. Dark orange, white head. Minerals and german hops, light smoke, fruity notes, light caramel in the finish Medium body, mellow mouthfeel. Light vegemite aftertaste.
