3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jfb (1628) - - AUG 17, 2010
(draught) pours a hazy amber colour with a frothy off-white head. surprisingly subtle and nuanced aroma of herbal hops, sweet spices and caramel. flavour is very rural, with pale malts, floral hops and hay in the front and a strange lingering bitter leberwurst finish. medium-bodied with smooth carbonation. quite good, takes a little getting used to though.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - MAY 18, 2011
11/12/11/12//11
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Oakes (10202) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 6, 2009
Bright amber, fiery and with a big rocky head. Toasty, caramelly aroma is yum. Very caramelly, earthy. There’s a unique richness of malt character, indicating perhaps an open fire kettle. Off-dry finish. The malt complexity makes this a standout - the best marzen I’ve had not made by Heller. And a kommunalbier to boot!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beershine (4766) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - JUL 18, 2009
Draft @ Familie Reindl. Clear, dark copper red color. Foamy, sudsy, rocky head. Aroma is malty, bready and spicy. Very aromatic. The palate is smooth. The flavors are spicier and very malty with lots of character. Nutmeg quality in the dry finish and a tad burnt, in a good way. One of the spiciest Franconian beers I have had. Distinct wood, burnt wood, minerals, and smoke. Wonderful.
