Draft ungespundetes pour during a private visit. All Hallertau Perle hops and Pilsner and Munich malt. Hazed amber gold with a short white head of large bubbles. Aroma is strongly sweaty and game-y with malty notes of caramel and pancakes with quieter notes of pepper-spice-spruce needle-evergreen, something I assume is a combination of hops, brewer’s yeast, and bacteria. Plus there’s something like fennel or cardamom up in this wonky nose. Altogether an unpleasant aroma but unique and distinct from every other Zoigl I’ve had from Windischeschenbach. Medium bodied, sweet with medium-low bitterness, low carbonation leaves it flabby and syrupy, but the burnt pancake batter maltiness is actually somewhat decent in the mouth, not as sweaty-gross as in the aroma. Pretty odd having it nearly flat but that’s the intent with not adding CO2 to the tank. Still I have to score it as I taste and smell it, and this one is just plain undesirable, but I have mad respect for the brewer and his ways.

Tap @ Zum Roud’n, Windischeschenbach. Pours hazy dark orange with a small white head. Yeasty and phenolic nose and flavor. Grassy hops with fruit and yeast beneath. Quite dirty.

Cloudy dark golden with a lasting white head. Malty aroma with hintsof yeast and sulphur. Sweetish malty flavour with yeasty notes, herbal hops and a nice bitterness

Unclear medium yellow orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, toasted - caramel, light hoppy. Flavour is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, caramel, fruity, citrus notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

At Zum Roud’n 11/07/2011. Hazy amber with a big, off-white head. Aroma of citrus fruit, some caramel and grassy hops. Flavour had some malty sweetness, marmalade and a long, bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

Tap at Zum Roud’n. Light apple and barley malt aroma. Hazy orange-amber color with giant head. Sweet fruity barley malt flavor - fruity flavor somewhere between apple and orange. Nice grassy hops finish. Seemed to stand out among the Zoigls I had - Excellent - didn’t want to stop drinking this one.

Cloudy dull tan-amber. Full but somewhat loose head. Herbal aroma has perhaps a bit more dusty yeast than the White Swan Zoigl. Has a pithy herbal dryness. Lots of hop finish.

At Zum Roud’n. Hazy orange brew with thick off-white foam. Served in a pewter-lidded glass stein, one of the only such mugs I have ever been served in. Aroma is mild with fresh fruity hop and sundried grain. Low carbonation. Soft and very easy to drink. Pretty thin in the finish after going through a citrusy and yeasty middle. Balanced and nice. Fresh big grain flavors. I also tasted something like toasted orange peel.
