Bottled. Dark brown color, huge light brown head. Aroma of dark malt, coffee, bit spicy, licorice, toffee, cookie, hint of laurel. Lots of different aroma’s, but all very soft. Medium sweet taste, medium bitter, quite dry, slight thin. Bit too much carbonation. It’s very much alike a porter with the coffee and the quite high bitterness. But then, the belgian yeast (though not too outspoken) and the added sugar (which probably makes it thin bodied) give the beer an interesting belgian twist. I wonder whether they made the porter/dubbel mix on purpose or that they were actually trying to make a porter, but were too ignorant. I hope the first (then it’s pretty neat), but the latter happens way too often in the low countries. For now, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

33cl, new exclusive Dutch brew Anno 2012, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, malty/spicy and slightly roasted/sweet, balanced, hazy, rocky head, good brew

Somewhat hazy dark ruby with huge lasting, lacing light brown foam head. Aroma is weak coffee, some caramel, malt. Taste is little sweet liitle bitter, caramel, coffee, some charcoal. Aftertaste is lasting, bit bitter. (Velp 201304)

Nice dark malt aroma. Flavour has bittersweet malts and is also quite nutty. Hints of cocoa and liquorice in the background.

Hazy dark brown, brown head. Not much aroma, but a lot of taste. Roasted malts, malty sweetness, some dark fruit and yeast. Quite nice. Medium to full body and soft but very decent carbonation.

aroma: uitstekend, moutig, chocolade, koffie, toffee, caramout, gebrande mouten.
smaken: matig zoet, licht bitter, stevig gemout (aard-, geroosterde-, cara- en gebrande mouten), iets van banaan
medium body, glad, normaal co2, afdronk: lange nadrukkelijke stevige volmoutige smaak

Poured a dense black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark, roast malt. Medium body, quite smooth, flavour as per the aroma with some dark chocolate and coffee grinds and a bitter aftertaste.

Poured a medium brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of sweet berry fruit and roasted malt. Oily medium to full body, flavour of he roast malt,

The head is beautiful, big and fluffy. Taste is interesting. Molasses, banana, iron, some sourness, bottle from De Bierkoning.

33cl Bottle from ABC Beers. Dark brown colour, thick light-beige head. Aroma of semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, light spices. Flavour is medium sweet, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, toffee, dark fruits, light spicy, bitter roasted finish. Medium-bodied. Nice and tasty dubbel with extra roast.

(Bottle, Café de la Gare, Den Haag, 21 Feb 2013) Dark brown colour with dense, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of caramel, coffee and chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with caramel, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit and a generous spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Interesting mixture of the spicy, fruity caramel character of an abbey dubbel and the roasty bitterness of a porter. Very nice.
