COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Wave is a light golden ale with a subtle fruitiness and delicate hop aroma. A smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The lightly roasted honey malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and also gives a slight sweetness that is balanced out by our special blend of hops.

Has the typical ’Yellow Fizzy’ look. A barely noticeable aroma. Mild flavor, nothing really jumps out at you. Sweetness with a bit of a hop bite at the finish. Not as fizzy as most lagers. I should have tasted this before I had the Fire Rock Pale Ale!

Doesn’t have a very strong nor likable flavor, definately has that microbrewed taste.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2004 Rerated on Maui. This was originally rated as Pacific Golden Ale, but Kona changed the name (not the recipe). My rating didn't change much over the years. Light golden, with little-to-no head. Sour grains and buttery nose. Apricot, bitter nuts and slightly piney hops in the flavor. Abrasive, sour finish. Doesn't seem very clean.

Hazy golden/brassy color, slight white foam that isn’t particularly enduring, very light signs of carbonation. Full malt nose, caramel smoothness, slightly sugary, hop aroma is mild with a slight spice and fruitiness. The palate is medium-bodied, a little on the light side for an ale with a tingling carbonation. A sweetness is the initial impression on the taste buds; it’s sugary, toffee-like and fruity, pretty full and well-defined, while there’s also a little graininess mid-palate. It does seem as though things are about to get a little too sweet when a surprising dryness hits the back of the palate. The dryness is pretty impressive in the finish, a little bitter, a little citric, but not overwhelmingly so. The sweetness does linger a little biscuity into the aftertaste, while there’s also a slight reminder of the dryness. Confusing, tries to go too far in separate directions. Drinkable and enjoyable, but not exceptional.

Drinkable, good balance and clean, but tends to be a bit light for my taste.
