Our brewers wanted to make a beer that went down easy after a day out on the water. Big Wave Golden Ale is just the ticket. Big Wave is a lighter bodied golden ale with a tropical hop aroma and flavor – a smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The use of caramel malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and our special blend of hops provides bright quenching finish. 10.3°

Malts: Pale (Premium 2-Row), Caramel
Hops: Galaxy, Citra

[Tap] Pours a clear golden color with a quickly receding white head. Aroma is of cereal malts and light honey sweetness. Cereal malts, sweet grain and mild grassy hops. Hints of fruitiness comes out in the taste as it warms. The body is OK for what it is, but a little on the light side otherwise. Highly carbonated. Pretty standard.

Bottle. Golden beer with an off-white head. Malt and light caramel aroma. Malt and light caramel flavor with some light toastiness. Medium bodied. Malt and light toastiness lingers with light caramel.

Bottle... Poured golden orange hue with a thin head that dissipated quickly. On par for the style: light, crisp, easy drinking. Honey sweetness, barley malt, and earthy hops contribute to most of the flavoring. Also a tropical fruitiness creeping in there.

Out of bottle smells of rancid butt, the taste though was amazing... it was very smooth and i had a stong taste of citrus.

drank from the bottle on the beach in Hawaii. Unfortunately, I have to say this is the first Kona beer that actually disappointed me. You can see AB poking their influence in this one. This beer preforms the same role in the Kona porfolio as longboard lager and is decidedly worse - why brew it? Aroma is light floral hops and corn. Flavor is creamed corn and maybe a touch of pineapple on the finihs, medium to light in body. Has an overall bland, slightly chemical taste and feel. Has macro written all over it. Cannot recommend.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. This is a golden beer that has just a bit of haze in it. The flavor and aroma offered light honey, grain, and fruit. Far from exceptional.

in a world of crappy tasteless lagers, this one is a pleasant change. Slightly bitter, hoppy aftertaste, lasts for a few seconds at least. Got in a bottle in Taipei from 7-11.

From the bottle. Clear gold pour with a small white head. Sweet toasted nose with floral hops. Subtle fruits and hops mixed with a lack of hop flavor. It’s balanced well enough, good carbonation, but feels like it is rushed together. Light to moderate body makes it a good warm weather beer.

Very slightly hazy golden coloured body with a thinnish (one centimetre tall) off-white head. Aroma of light corn, fresh honey, some light pineapple, grass and a bit of light malt. Light to Medium-bodied; Viscous, almost honey like feel at first with sweetness and a potent maltiness that shows some good complexity for the style, then shows a lot of sweetness and a rather mellow subdued finish with sweetness and a good honey and pineapple glow. Overall, a surprisingly good and refreshing beer that shows a lot of the Hawaiin vibe and a bit of a complexity toward the end. Overall, I wasn’t expecting much, due to the low ratings, but found a better than average beer that is definitely worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whaler’s General Store in Poipu Shopping Village in Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii on 07-March-2011 sampled at home on the other end of the United States in Washington on 06-June-2011.
