Our brewers wanted to make a beer that went down easy after a day out on the water. Big Wave Golden Ale is just the ticket. Big Wave is a lighter bodied golden ale with a tropical hop aroma and flavor – a smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The use of caramel malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and our special blend of hops provides bright quenching finish. 10.3°

Malts: Pale (Premium 2-Row), Caramel

Golden with white head; some sediment. Surprising fruity aroma. Taste - notes of tropical fruit, wheat, yeast and light toasted malt. Much better than I was expecting. Drinkable and refreshing.

12oz single bottle from Spirits Cross Roads. Poured a super clear gold body with an average to slightly bigger fizzy bright white head. Aroma of grains, some honey bran flakes, corn husk and veggies. The body is thinner to almost medium with stronger carbonation and a super quick fading aftertaste. Flavor is a quick burst of malty grains, some dust and finishes with a touch bitter old lemon rind. Blah this is nothing special.

Pour is a clear blonde with a fizzy white head. Aroma is somewhat floral and fruity. Flavor is grainy malt with some sweetness but then a nice hoppyness shows up in the end. It’s a golden ale but with a lot more flavor then most.

12oz bottle from Binny’s Lakeview. Pours a crystal clear, straw colored body with a finger-width, foamy and frothy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma has a nice, fresh, crisp grassy and pine hopping with a pleasant grapefruit note. Light, grainy pale malt note behind the hops. Flavor isn’t as crisp and clean, but it’s alright. Some grassy citrus notes with a light pine and a grainy, somewhat bready, lightly sweetened pale malt backing. FInishes lightly bitter and mostly dry with some biscuity notes alongside a few citruses. Medium length aftertaste following a light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent golden ale. The aroma was pretty solid and this remained easy drinking and quaffable. Not bad.

A great, session ale with loads of tropical fruit flavor. Perfect for a hot summer day.

Draught at Kona Brewing Company - KoKo Marina Pub, 5.4% ABV
Deep blond color, with generous compact head, leaving a sticky lace. The aroma is perfumy, hoppy, fresh, with delicate fruitiness. The mouthfeel is drier than expected, the flavor is rather anonymous, with some dry malt, and hints of good hops; ordinary bitterness, into a very dry final.
Promising aroma, disappointing flavor.

Bottle from Kumiyama Aeon Mall liquor shop. Good, barny sort of stink, pine nose. Pretty clear straw; lots of carb. Sweaty, dirty hoop initial; mid has piney notes and caramel; nice finish and then in fades very quickly, like a big wave spent. Very refreshing. But way over the top in aroma and hoppiness for the style. Still, I like it.

Pours pale yellow into a shaker. White head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Sour hay and caramel aromas. Dry with sweet honey and bread upfront turning sharp in the sour hay finish.

Pours a golden yellow with mid-sized head. Some hop aroma, but mainly a bready, malt nose. Flavor is a nice smooth combo of malt with some hoppy notes present. Nicely balanced with a sweetness to it and a smooth finish. Not bad, not bad at all.
