COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our brewers wanted to make a beer that went down easy after a day out on the water. Big Wave Golden Ale is just the ticket. Big Wave is a lighter bodied golden ale with a tropical hop aroma and flavor – a smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The use of caramel malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and our special blend of hops provides bright quenching finish. 10.3°

Malts: Pale (Premium 2-Row), Caramel
Hops: Galaxy, Citra

This golden ale is underrated! Excellent palate, flavorful, with citrus hints in the aftertaste. I would say it's the best coming out from Hawaii. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Kind of blah, smooth, uninspired golden ale. Slight hoppiness. Okay beer I guess. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from bier-deluxe.de: Aroma is hoppy, fruity, grainy. Notes of grass, pineapple, grapes. Golden color, low white head. Flavor is mild, light malty, fruitiness (mango, papaya), pine. Quite light bodied but thirst quenching.

.355l bottle @ Sloppy Joe’s. Pours clear with low white yeasty head. Aroma is hops, citrus fruits, some pine, cascade?, sweat. Flavor is mostly same. Bit watery though. Easy to drink.

On draught at our local Old Chicago. Pours a clear gold with a good head of foam and good lacing. The smell is of earthy malt and grain with a light hint of hop bitterness. The taste also leans towards the malty side. No sweetness, more earthy and grainy than anything else. The hops impart very little to the overall flavour. Good enough mouthfeel but I don’t think I will drink this again. Boring.

An instant favourite of mine. Will certainly be my drink of choice in the warmer weather this summer. Light, crisp and refreshing.

Bottle @ Easter. Clear pale yellow/golden pour with a small white head. Sort of a sweet orange and spicy hop aroma. Lots of bread and grain as well. Slight cauliflower, maybe? A little bit of apple and biscuit as well. The sweetness of grain and apple is sort of dominating on the tongue. A little bitter and grainy on the finish. Some sweet orange, apple peel, and a light vegetal note. Eh...

The date on the bottle was 02/18/2015 and I drank it 56 days after this date. There was no indication on the bottle if this was a "bottled on" or "best by" date. It poured a light golden color, 3-4 SRM, clear. Decent carbonation and a thin white head that played out pretty quick. The aroma was Citra hops and nothing else. The initial taste and feel was like butter... literally. I couldn’t pin down a specific style for this beer. Different sites had it listed differently, but even so it didn’t seem to follow the criteria of the style they had it listed as anyway. All the styles that this beer might fall under stated that diacetyl should not be detected, so either no one got the style right or Kona didn’t get the beer right. There was the mild fruity bitterness from the Citra in the middle and it finished watery and slick with a hint of dryness. So I don’t know, it’s an ale that drinks like a light lager, tastes like buttered pineapple and movie popcorn, and finishes smooth like tropical flavored vegetable oil, if that helps.
