Black Sand Porter is a robust, full bodied porter with pronounced bittersweet chocolate flavor and aroma from the diverse variety of malt used to brew this beer. The hops balance the the maltiness of this robust and roasty ale.

Draft at Marina Pub. Delicious! Pours a shinny black with a nice fizzy light tan head. Aroma is dry, ashy, round, similar to Deschutes, rich smokey nutty enticing, piney hoppy, super hoppy, excellent woody-like notes. Flavor follows, delicious, dry, lightly round, ashy, piney, hoppy, nutty, bit of citrus, similar to Deschutes, bit of dry wood, black coffee towards the finish, nice bitterness in the finish, lingering ash, light sweetness, spruce. Dry but perfect sweetness in the body, soft carbonation, works so well. Love it!

Served on tap at the Marina Brewpub. The appearance is a medium deep brown, slightly translucent. The flavors and aromas are rich with roasted malts, nice roasted coffee and chocolate tones. A drying finish and after taste. Really nice robust porter.

Mild and sweet aroma. Flavor has mild maltiness for a porter. Berry flavor is also present.

Tap. A dark brown beer with a nice lasting head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, with the taste being the same & having a gritty feel to it(maybe the sand in the name got me psychologically). A nice porter.

On tap at the brewery. Not a big nose. Roasted and toasted notes with the palate very similar, but nutty too. The finish was hoppy and dry. The look of this was nice, standard porter look.

On tap at brewpub in Kona - Poured dark brown color with thin beige head. Aroma - chocolate malt, roasted nuts and hint of coffee. I also detected musty basement aroma. Flavor - Initial thought was smooth porter, nice balance of the sweet chocolate malt and hops. I also liked the nutty flavor, almost tasted like almonds or macadamia nuts. Palate - medium bodied with average carbonation. Finish is kinda bitter and has this burnt coffee taste right at the end! Overall - Not a top 5 Porter but still a good showing. Great flavor but finish ruined it a bit for me!!

Tap at the brewpub. Mushroom, a touch of roast coffee, barley soup aroma. Very dark brown pour, not quite black. Full, fizzy, with shroom, a little coffee, earth, bark. Decently complexity.

On tap at the Kona Brew Pub on Oahu. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, vey light coffee and light vanilla cream. Tastes of roasted coffee, and chocolate. Lacing left on the glass. Very enjoyable.

Had on tap at the Kona brewpub after a tour of the place while vacationing in Hawaii. Not bad at all, and if I remember right, the waiter had a cool story to tell us about black sand.
