COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A full-bodied, American-Style I.P.A. that is bronze in color, Castaway IPA is "dry hopped" (aged with liberal amounts of whole hop flowers after fermentation) for assertive hop flavor and aroma. The bitterness is balanced by the malty body of the beer.

On Draught at Lobo Beast 101 in Albuquerque. Pours a clear gold color with frothy white head. Subtly piney hoppy aroma. Full mouthfeel, well carbonated. Piney hops dominates underlying clean malty flavor. A bit overcarbonated but OK. Bitter finish.

Routine IPA with more aroma than taste. Big picture: Why ship an IPA from HI to MI to compete with the best and freshest IPAs in the world?

355 ml bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Looks: Translucent golden orange honey colour Half finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with near zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant and sweet Ale malt, with strong floral nectar, strong jackfruits, passion fruits, very light grapefruits, strong molasses, pine, biscuits, yeast, lemon and moderate grass.

Taste: Mid to light sweet Ale malt, with light grapefruit, light molasses, moderate pine, strong resin, strong earth, wood, yeast, lemon, strong bitter hops and pretty sharp grass.

Body: Close to medium body. Slick, thick and quite oozy palate.

Mouth Feel: Pretty rich Ale malt, Caramel malt taste is not significant. Sweetness is right on. Hops show dark character - citrus seems slightly lighter for the style, fair pine but strong resin oozes. Notably strong earth and woodiness. Interesting!

Hoppiness: strong floral nectar, strong jackfruits, passion fruits, pine, lemon and grass in nose. Fair grapefruit, strong earth and wood, pine, strong resin, lemon and light grass in taste. Bitterness is strong for a lasting, high astringent bitter-sweet finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. Oozy and sweet-bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one has two faces: shiny bright tropical fruity and flowery aroma, coupled with rather dark hoppiness in strong earth, resin, wood and dull citrus. Quite a character. Well balanced and enjoyable. A good one to put your feet up late at night!

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/9/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, balance, and complexity of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and moderately sticky/resinous mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good IPA. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
