COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A full-bodied, American-Style I.P.A. that is bronze in color, Castaway IPA is "dry hopped" (aged with liberal amounts of whole hop flowers after fermentation) for assertive hop flavor and aroma. The bitterness is balanced by the malty body of the beer.

Bottle to glass. Pours a lighter golden color, more along the coloring of a lager. White head. Aroma is hoppy, with notes of citrus and light grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit peel, citrus hops with mild bitterness. Not a real malt presence detectable, but definitely not a palate wrecker. Palate is medium body, light carbonation. Not my favorite.

Uh...Kona owned by Inbev, who wouldíve thunk? Haha, apparently recipes donít necessarily go by the wayside. Good job Kona on maintaining that. The bottling date I see is stamped: April 10, 2014. I poured this into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice glossy clear yellow to golden amber color. The lacing, oh yeah, spectacular, as it looks just like any other craft beer, it speckles a bit and shows a decent semi-thickness running about the glass. It absolutely looks superbly. The smell, geeze louise, uh...super nice grapefruit bitter hoppiness with some other nice citrusy aspects coming out as it warms. I will say that there is a nice light maltiness helping to balance all of this out. The taste is pretty much on par to blow one outa the water for the "above par" AIPA as it has a super nice bittersweet grapefruit flavoring leading all of the way through. There is a semi-sweet citrus-like aftertaste and a decent bitter dry finish. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium on the body and ends up having a fairly decent sessionable quality running about it. The carbonation does show a respectful harsh quality for a normal AIPA and tells me this is worthy. Overall, Inbev owned, ha. I say who cares as whoever can make the best beer wins in the end. This is more than worthy.

I tell you what, I almost didnít purchase this because it was rated an 88 on here. Good thing I bought it! I knew from the moment I opened it and my nose was greeted by grapefruit and citrus Iíd enjoy it. Itís a great IPA. Pours a honey gold color, a finger of white tiny bubbly head. As I drink it, it has great lacing. The nose is lots of grapefruit, lemon, orange, some sweet bready malts, and pine needle. Itís well balanced, not a whole lot of bitterness on the toungue, and the sweetness of the malts really comes through here. The description says full-bodied, but Iíd say itís medium bodied. High drinkability. A well crafted IPA. As far as a standard IPA goes, this makes my top 10 for sure.

This is a very solid IPA, like most from Kona. Grapefruity and bitter, but with a great balancing honey and caramel flavor. Tried at the DC Drink the District Derby Days with Matt and Justin.

Hops hits notes of grapefruit, grass, and flowers. Color- bright yellow with orange hues. Could have used a stronger malt base.

A clear dark yellow beer with a small white head. The aroma is tropical fruit and floral hops. The flavor is floral, piney, a bit fruity, and decent malt.

A light tawny tipple. Weíve all felt like castaways at some point, societyís leftover, unwanted scraps. Not me, of course. But for the rest of you there is a beer in your memory. I shall drink it and toast to you. Not too bitter, more of a tropical fruit, floral and citrus hangout as the theme seems to be for Kona. A wee bit of piney snap but mostly chill grooves from the caramel and sugar cereal malt. Mid carbonation and refreshing as.

Bottle: This is a very simple yet quality IPA. Bronze color; small soapy head. Dry hopped taste featuring grapefruity hops. Another strong brew from these guys! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home in Salisbury - picked up at Stateline. Pours clear, luscious gold with a frothy white head. The nose has pale bread up front, then some dynamic citrus elements, like tangerine, orange, faint melon and grapefruit. The flavor is medium sweet and well rounded, with minimal bitterness but nice, semi-full and rounded citrusy and tropical fruits. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Refreshing finish, pretty clean, with more grapefruit and tangerine, mellow citrus rind bitterness, some passionfruit. Actually, the more I drink of this beer the more I like it. Very drinkable stuff.
